An American style barley wine. Big on flavor, big on flavor, big on hops and big on alcohol. An unseasonably strong beer, brewed with lots of dark malts to give a rich malt character, finishing with a distinctive hop aroma and a little sweetness.
Malts: pale, wheat, crystal, chocolate, black
Hops: Galena, nugget, east Kent goldings

Scopey (11356) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 7, 2015
Bottle thanks to T-Broise. It pours clear deep mahogany brown with a small white head. The nose is toasty brown sugar, wood, resin, toffee, banana bread, fruit cake and some umami. The taste is toasty, sweet, sticky, umami action, brown bread, booze, dried fruits, wood and resin with a warming finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Quite a lot of booze and umami. Not sure on this one.

Taste comprises sweet licks, toffee, dark fruit peel, dates, cake mix. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with an earthy hop presence and light warming booze. Ok barley wine, pretty simple but decent enough.

Bottle; shared; Ale House; Chelmsford; 7th April 2015. Lots of carmael; oak; cedar; dried fruits; some oxidisation but not too intense. Nice mouth-feel. A well-made and interesting barely wine. Would need to outsource another botlle for a more comprehensive review.

Clear deep red - amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, slightly soft and semi dry. Malts are smooth with unsweet toffee and a little drying. Alcohol spice. Mild skunky hops, trace of marmalade. Semi dry finish, not bad but does show the alcohol.
