The head is great, the body black. It smells refreshing, fresh, a bit darkmalty. The taste is foamy, salty, roasty, oyster, darkmalty, interesting and tasty. 14/13/12/12/-/13

Pours a midnight brown color, turns black when held away from light. Head is cream toned and about an inch thick. Head retention and lacing are pretty good. Aroma is of roasted caramel malts, rye bread, and faint burnt coffee. Sweet milk chocolate is also lingering in the nose. Hops and alcohol are undetectable. First taste is of charred chocolate malt. Not as sweet as in the nose, flavor is more like bitter dark chocolate than chocolate milk. Dont know if my mind is playing tricks on me but I taste a slight salty brine in the finish. Beer has a pronounced hoppiness, not sure if its from roasted barley or actual hops. From the limited number of Irish dry stouts I’ve tried, this one seems to be one of the few ones that has a tiny alcohol bit, most are on the tame side. Mouthfeel is somewhat light but has more substance than most Irish stouts. Carbonation levels are somewhat high but the head helped to tone down the over fizziness. Overall this beer was good for its style but nothing amazing or near the top of my list of favorite stouts. Didnt get any flavor of oyster, which is probably a good thing. Went down pretty easy but not sure if I’d buy it again.

on Tap @ the Porterhouse, Dublin .. . pours a very dark brown .. . medium head, lacing .. . very mild minerals, earth, and cooking chocolate .. . light roastiness .. . would probably have a pint again .. . . Karate Chop!!!!

Bottle: Poured a black color oil with a fluffy off white/tan head. Aroma is salty and malty. Taste is rich roasted malt with a salty finish.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of roasted malts and a hint of the ocean. Taste of coffee, cocoa, roasted malts, and on the back end there is the flavor of oysters/ocean. Best oyster stout out there.

24/05/2013 Birrifugio Trastevere (tap). Nera, impenetrabile, bellissima schiuma bianco-beige, finissima e molto persistente. Al naso sentori di malti tostati, con note di cenere, una punta di salmastro, grande equilibrio ed eleganza. in bocca è delicata, una carezza, armoniosa in perfetto stile anglosassone, forse un po’ corta. Corpo medio-leggero, carbonazione soft. Una ottima interpretazione del genere.

Deep brown,small beige head.Lightly spiced roasty nose.Thin bodies ,light roast & light spiciness. Medium bitter end

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks zvikar. Clear coke brown with beige head. Some ink, seaweed, iodine and some saltiness aroma. Tastes bitter and a little salty. There’s more evidence of roasted stuff in the mouth. Medium body, delicate fizz, salty finish, Very tasty but not aggressive enough.

Smells chocolaty with a hint of the ocean. Pours deep brown with red tints and thin almost nonexistent head. Tastes slightly sweet with a hint of fishiness, not overpowering. Goes down smooth and creamy, but leaves a fishy aftertaste.
