Brewed with fresh oyster. A smooth drinking aromatic stout with a discernible but unidentifiable aromatic aspect. Not suitable for vegetarians. This gently flavored stout has a roast malt character, full body and an aromatic character from the Goldings hops. Fresh oysters added during the brewing process, lend a discernible yet unidentifiable note.

330 ml, flaske, 5,2 % ABV, BB: 23/09/15, købt i Frederiks Villa i Fakse Ladeplads, 26. august 2015. Sort/brun irsk Stout med moccafarvet skumtop på 3 cm. Rolig og ufiltreret. I næsen rammer en aroma af hav og ristet malt og lette kaffenoter. En sofistikeret og noget ny og ukendt aroma, fristes jeg til at tilføje Smagen er præget af den ristede malt, men med tydelige salt- og mineralnoter af den tilsatte østersmængde. Saltsmagen ligger i den umiddelbare start, hvorefter den ristede maltdominans overtager. I sødmen fornemmes chokolade-noter. Overordnet indtryk: solid bitter, let salt og minimalt sød. Kroppen er middel fyldig og karboneret på et middel niveau eller et lille nyk herunder. Konsistensen er glat, og eftersmagen bitter samt middel lang. Øllet frembringer en følelse af rigtig Stout, og det er ingen tung øl, men det er forbavsende, hvor meget smag, de har hivet hjem med de blotte 5,2 %. Spændende bekendtskab.

Maker: Porterhouse Brewing Company, Dublin, Ireland. *** Beer: Porterhouse Oyster Stout (bottled, 330ml) *** Style: Stout *** ALC.VOL.: 5.2% *** "A smooth drinking aromatic stout with a discernible but unidentifiable aromatic aspect. Not suitable for vegetarians. This gently flavored stout has a roast malt character, full body and an aromatic character from the Goldings hops." [brewery note] *** Colour: Dark reddish brown, with a huge, frothy beige head. *** Nose: Roasted malts, dark cocoa, oatmeal. A light whiff of sea water. *** Texture: Medium to full body, not watery at all. Moderate carbonation. *** Taste: Explicit roasted malts at the start, very dry and bitter, "very espresso". A hint of licorice and herbs for balance, and a sea salt note that’s a little more pronounced than in the aroma. Drier and more bitter towards the middle, with coffee now calling the shots. But floral notes also emerge as one continues drinkign the beer. The finish has a light hoppy note over all the roasted malt and grain, and there’s a persistent salty note here and in the aftertaste as well. *** Impressions: The term "oyster stout" refers to fishermen in the coastal towns of England who were fishing for oysters, then ate them while drinking stout. HERE, it also refers to actual fresh oysters that are added sometime during the brewing process [had such beers once or twice]. So that’s where the sea salt comes from (but it’s not obtrusive). Otherwise, a well-balanced, characterful coffee stout that will leave a lasting impression.

Tight nose. Compared to Porterhouse Plain Porter: similarly light Coca-Cola/caramel nose, but a wee bit saltier. Wispy body. Compared to Porterhouse Plain Porter: meltier, chewier + more powdered choc. Finish: Similar hoppy twist (same hops used). Also this, has a slight seawater salt return.

0,33 cl bottle. Pours thick high retentive beige foam and a deep black colour. Nose is extremely malty, dark bread. Good carbonation. Dark bread , English liquorice, burnt toast . Nice bitter finish. Didn't find the oyster though.

33cl bottle, bb09/2015. 101th Bloomsday celebratory tipple, skipping the gorgonzola this time. - Thinner brown pour, near fizzy. Smells of caramel ashes, roast bread crust, indeed a "discernible but unidentifiable aromatic aspect" closer to quince or unripe pear than oyster. Thinner than expected palate transports powder chocolate, filter coffee, caramels, all filtered through a haze of gently briny ash, rimmed by a pleasant Golding prickle. Pleasant enough, although lacking the punch to accompany any heartier fare like "thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liverslices fried with crustcrumbs, fried hencods’ roes", let alone grilled mutton kidneys!

Casi negra y casi opaca, dejando pasar mínimamente la luz para dejar un mínimo tono rojizo. Muy fuerte aroma a chocolate. En boca es un compendio de matices. Empieza seca, para enseguida aparecer un fuerte sabor frutal y acabar con fuerte amargor seco que deja un agradable sabor que perdura.. Gran stout.

Pour on nitro tap at the brewpub, dark brownish black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes caramel, toffee, roast, some nice chocolate notes, some toasted bread. Taste was a mix of chocolate, coffee, hints of spice into some roast, slight earth, touch of vanilla, finishing slightly sweet.

Draft pour at the source. The beer is a dark brown with a khaki head. The aroma has chocolate, ash, and just a hint at brine. The taste is a muted sweetness with a touch of salt. Medium body and low carbonation.
