Draught at Porterhouse Cork. Pours a deep amber-brown with a thick nitro head. Aroma is very dampened by the head, but I can just about make out bread, nuts and toffee. Taste is a medium malty sweetness followed by the barley bitterness you expect with a dry stout. Nice smoky bitter palate, nice and full, smooth mouthfeel. A good beer, but, as the name suggests, just a little bit plain. Want to try the bottled version for comparison’s sake.

So I guess this is their housebeer? Because it rocks. A huge amount of tobacco on the nose, and even pulling through the flavour and finish with ash (mmmm). Chocolate and coffee much stronger than an average porter... so now I see why it’s labelled a dry stout here. Just as flavourful as a higher quality stout but a bit lighter mouthfeel I guess. Still, you could tell me this was 8% and I’d believe you. Fantastic.

Bottle, shared with my wife over a gorgeous homemade traditional shepherds pie on St. Patrick’s Day. Very dark brown with deep golden amber highlights and a medium brown head of fine foam. Aroma is very chocolatey, dry cocoa and bread and roast. Chocolate and roast flavours fill the palate, mouthfeel is soft, with a nice balanced bitterness in the finish. I was surprised that this carried a nice medium bodied heft to it, given the ABV (plus I found their Oyster Stout to be quite watery, on tap and from the bottle). This was very good.

Draft. Pours dark with nice creamy head. Roasty and clean, pretty light for a stout. Nice for St. Patty’s day.

Tasted @ RBBWG 2013 Thanks Sebletitje Pours hazy brown with a small tan head. The smell is chocolate cake batter, dark malt, brown sugar. The taste follows the smell with a dry finish. Body is medium with average carbonation. Overall it’s a decent beer with a nice low abv.
