Whisky/Bourbon zymatore, so I guess not so plain. Draft, thank you Tyler. Very dark brown color, thick brown head, solid lacing. Aroma of roasty vanilla and coffee. Taste is boozy chocolate and coffee.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear dark ruby brown. Nice ivory head and big splotches of lace. Taste is a satin-y smooth toasted caramel malt with a finish of bittersweet milk chocolate. Simple and to the point, but hardly plain. Recommended.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Strong, smoky aroma has notes of coffee and molasses and a hint of unsweet chocolate. Pours a dark-chocolate brown with a VERY thick light tan head, lets a peak of light in only at the very bottom. Lip-smacking flavor has caramel, molasses, coffee and unsweet chocolate notes with a hint of hop bitterness and another of honey sweetness; the last two balance each other nicely. Body seems to be on the thin side, and fizz leaves a bit to be desired. Overall, though, a good Porter - not really plain.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (milk chocolate, caramel, nuts), with light notes of vanilla and paper/plaster.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Light to medium body, velvety/creamy texture, lively/soft carbonation.
The name is remarkably apropos..."plain" describes it perfectly. Very simple and unremarkable, but easy to drink and without major flaws. Very nice silky mouthfeel.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330 ml bottle @ Cardinal. Dark brown, almost black body with a big, lasting beige head. Moderate in aroma, dark malt, toast and mild roast. Flavor is relatively light roasted, some fruit and a light, almost sharp bitterness. Medium body, but the malt flavor feels a bit light, almost watery. Aftertaste is not particular sweet, neither “porter sour” and not much bitterness. Easy and smooth to drink, and it is really a plain porter.
