Much better than the overrated and overhyped Guinness, which is drunk by gormless posers. This is a stout that the Irish should be proud of and should be drunk much more widely than its evil cousin. Sweet and caramel in taste, but what I like the most is the long lasting dry bitter aftertaste. garthicus (1274), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 22, 2007 C-bus 7. Light roasted malt. Black body with a thin head. Medium palate. Lightly bitter toasted malts and some hints of coffee. Some grassy flavors show up now to make this more complex and are joined by an astringent malt flavor that detracts from the flavor. hopscotch (5474), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 22, 2007 Bottle... Pitch black ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The nose is of coal dust and cocoa powder. Burnt, bitter flavor with no residual sweetness. Bursts of dark chocolate and espresso. Full-bodied and astringent with soft carbonation. Bitter, acrid finish. A big SHOUT goes out to jjpm74 for providing the bottle! JMFG (1514), Florida, USA

Aromas of smoky roasted malts over chocolate and caramel. Flavor is quite roasty as well with a good amount of smoke there. Some good sweetness finds it’s way through with notes of caramel and chocolate. Smooth and rich throughout with a nice dry finish. I really enjoyed this one. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA
