ZigZag River Lager is an old favorite from the Portland Brewing archives. It’s a clean, easy-drinking golden lager brewed with Nugget and Tettnang hops and a touch of malted wheat to give it a crispness perfect for Portland summers.

Smooth lager, hint of sweetness, mildly fruit and spice hop flavored but noticeable. Slightly spicy hop after taste lingers on the tongue. An easy drinking beer for a hot afternoon.

Bomber from Winco. Slightly hazy deep amber in color. Fairly sweet nose. Floral and fruity with a little bit of hoppiness. Crisp up front with a solid malty character. Nice little hop kick for a finish. Really nice for a premium lager.

Pours a finger of head on a clear golden body. The aroma is dry grain, on the mild side. The taste starts with a mild dry bitterness, then a touch of sweet, finishes with an odd bitter flavor. The texture is crisp.

I took a week off from beer during finals week, and celebrated the end of my academic quarter with a sixer of this. I was in the mood for something more appropriate for winter, but this caught my eye and I realized I’d been meaning to try it. So, here goes. 12 oz bottle. Pours a nice copper color, slight white head, no lacing. Aroma is grassy and yeasty. Flavor has a strong malt backbone. Mouthfeel is a bit lively, very crisp. Overall, a very good lager, and very refreshing. Makes me wish it was summer already.

Bottle, pours hazy gold, with a big head and some lacing. nose is malt, yeast, a bit of hop. Crisp but lackluster taste, malt, yeast. Wett muddy finish, but still very drinkable.

Bottle on a Horizon Air flight home from Santa Barbara

Deep gold pour, white head. Malty nose. Surprisingly big flavor, assertively hopped with lingering lemon-peel oils. Malts confer a bit of sweetness but are overwhelmed at the end. Not bad.

A truly clean and easy drinking beer. Aroma, taste, and palate are all smooth and not overpowering. A good beverage to have two or five of.

Bottle from the local Costco. Pours a mostly clear light amber color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose is malt forward, with some grains and light bread notest to it. Taste isn’t too sweet, and ends up being bready with a slight bit of caramel. Better than I expected.

UPDATED: OCT 4, 2014 Good, dependable Portland beer. I think it pour pretty in a glass. Lager borders on ale taste. Recently found this for 98 cents a big bottle at my local grocery store. Right on!
