Portland Pale Ale - an Oast Ale. Whatís an Oast Ale? Itís a Portland Brewing exclusive thatís spiced with distilled oil from the rare hop Brewerís Gold. We harvest the prized hop in the Willamette Valley, ship it to England for distilling, and ship it back in the form of hop oil which we then add to our beer as a finishing touch. The results of our transatlantic efforts? A crisp, refreshing summer ale thatís bursting with floral-hops aroma with none of the usual hops bitterness. Portland Pale Ale is available April through August.

When I subleted an apartment last summer, a whole case of this stuff was left in the fridge. I see why. I donít like most pale ales, and this is one of them. I couldnít even finish the case in a summer.

Had this beer on 6/14/1999. Color is a bright crystal clear gold with good carbonation and a thin head. Aroma is a sweet malt scent that reminds me of apple juice, there is no hop aroma. Taste is lightly sweet and boring. Starting with a light body it goes down a bit crisp with a very mild malt flavor. The finish is a very light malt flavor with a very mild bitterness. As a Pale its just not good.

Poured from a bottle picked up at a local bar. Donít know if the beer had been sitting for a while and was skunk, but the taste was pretty bad. Maybe will give it a try again one day, but not anytime soon.
