BeerViking (4144) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 13, 2016
UPDATED: SEP 13, 2016 Cask at the Plough and Harrow JDW, near-black with an off-white crema and light aromas of cream, coffee and red fruit. Dry and roasty, with a burnt bitterness, liquorice and a tart sour-plum edge. Not sure the latter is meant to be there, but it sort of works!

Pours very dark, almost black, with a cream bubbly head. Lots of dark malts, chocolate hints, liquorice. More dark malts in the taste, dark fruit hints towards the finish, plum particularly.

Tried at the Bourne Festival 2015. Deep cola colour with a vey thin off white head. Aroma was fruit with a touch of roasted malt. The taste had more chocolate, with a roasted malt finish.

Cask conditioned at The Grape & Grain, Crystal Palace, London. Very dark brown with white head. This is fairly thin for a porter, there is a boiled malt note but with a chocolate bitterness. Some fruity hints as well. It’s okay if a touch dull.

This isn't unpleasant but I was very shocked at first sip. And quite disappointed. Hardly a porter. Was expecting more from portobello, a brewery I usually love. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at The Antelope in Surbiton. Great coffee aroma and certainly the dominant taste too, on top of a little ash and liquorice. Slightly thin in the palate stops it getting top marks but a great beer.

Keg at the Hare and Billet, Blackheath. Black pour with a beige head. Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate and licorice. Dark fruit and raisin flavours. Dry, malty finish.
