A well-kept half pint at The Gunmarkers in Clerkenwell. Low fawn-coloured head, some of it remaining. Deep dark ruby body colour. Roasted malts on the nose with moments of dark chocolate. Mixed taste of brown and black malts added by resinous hops. Roasted ending. Medium bodied. Nice (London 23.09.2014).

Had this on Handpump at JDW, Shepherds Bush, London, Tuesday 12th August 2014 Pours dark brown with light beige head. Really roasty lots of chocolate and cocoa, very decent. Lasting roasty bitterness. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4

Cask handpull, The Merchant, Rugby, Dads’ Day/Strike Day Crawl, 15/06/14. Beige-draped dark ruby. Good rotting leaves in a drainpipe filled with instant coffee aroma. Chocolate lime, cream, fine sieved cocoa and roast taste with a mellow roasted linger. Probably Beer of the Day.

Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 29 Jan 2013. Poured a very dark brown, with an off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, cocoa and some not-too-overpowering coffee. Roasted malt flavours, with some burnt sugar and some spruce-like hop character. Finish was nice lingering bitter dark chocolate, burnt malt and treacle.

Poured into pint glass from draft. Pours a dark ruby colour, lively head that settles quickly. Aromas of chocolate and coffee but nothing special. Taste is toasted malt, slight sourness, quite bland overall though with little to no finish. Mouthfeel is quite thin. Not the worst brew but certainly not the best.

Short review due to social. Cask at the College Arms London, served in pint glass. Black, small white head. Body is medium, low-ish carbonation. Taste is watery with some ash and milk chocolate, slightly astringent, soft bitterness.

Aroma: chocolate, roasted malts, hints of coffee. Appearance: dark brown/black, medium beige head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: sweets getting a bit more intense, very smooth, quite nice coffee and roasted flavours. Overall: very nice Porter, smoothness is quite amazing. Beer at the White Horse, Parson’s Green.

Clear dark brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt, coffee - dusty coffee. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, medicine. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. ( I had the feeling that the bar line was not cleaned !! since I got the first ½ pint of the day ) [20130328]
