Cask at The Roebuck. Pours extremely dark brown, almost black with a thick, fine beige byways that it’s moderately long lived and doesn’t leave much lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malt and some caramel. Taste is mild bitterness. No carbonation.

Pours very dark, almost black, with a cream bubbly head. Lots of dark malts, chocolate hints, liquorice. More dark malts in the taste, dark fruit hints towards the finish, plum particularly.

Cask conditioned at The Grape & Grain, Crystal Palace, London. Very dark brown with white head. This is fairly thin for a porter, there is a boiled malt note but with a chocolate bitterness. Some fruity hints as well. It’s okay if a touch dull.

This isn't unpleasant but I was very shocked at first sip. And quite disappointed. Hardly a porter. Was expecting more from portobello, a brewery I usually love. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at The Antelope in Surbiton. Great coffee aroma and certainly the dominant taste too, on top of a little ash and liquorice. Slightly thin in the palate stops it getting top marks but a great beer.

A well-kept half pint at The Gunmarkers in Clerkenwell. Low fawn-coloured head, some of it remaining. Deep dark ruby body colour. Roasted malts on the nose with moments of dark chocolate. Mixed taste of brown and black malts added by resinous hops. Roasted ending. Medium bodied. Nice (London 23.09.2014).
