Pours copper colored with a decent size white head. Hoppy aroma, citrusy, slight caramel. Clean, crisp, refreshing taste. Simple, yet refreshing.

Poured from the tap into a Portsmouth brewery pint glass. The color is a bright, hazy amber with about a finger of foamy white head and some nice lacing. The smell is a bit citrus and a light pine. The is some really strong earthy hops in the nose and it bites at your nostrils. The taste is pretty darn bitter. I didn’t check the IBUs but I am willing to bet it is high. Some tangy bite that makes you make a face on the first couple of sips. A bit of a earthy pine flavor in the back and a resin flavor up front. Some sweetness does come out and seems to be riding the edge along the bitter heart of this beer. The feel of this beer is medium bodied. It was easy going down but a pretty bitter beer but not the most bitter I have had but it was up there. It had a bit high ABV then most beers but it was not too strong. A really good IPA.

A big thanks to portia99 for this growler. I hope you enjoy your growler of Russian River Blind Pig! Appearance: Orange body reminiscent of a pumpkin ale with a 1 finger white crown that shows a bit of retention and loads of lacing. Smell: A delicious hop medley that of which I have not smelled before. Possibly a combo of floral hops, chinook and hallertau? Taste: Juicy hops with a nice dose of pine, an interesting malt profile, a touch of peach, perhaps orange but not overstated. Loads of bitter hops in the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and slightly chewy. Drinkability: Would score it higher if the flavor profile was better. NOTE: THIS BEER SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED AS IT WARMED Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 08-27-2009

22oz bottle from straffordmilitia on BA - thanks, Ben! Nice copper pour with a rocky head and a fairly active body. Spicy and resinous hops in the nose, which I was far more in the mood for than floral fruits. Mouthfeel is nice and full, carbonation playful but not too much so. The flavors reveal a bit more than just bitters, with a gently layered malt profile that emerges very impressively, and some softer qualities to the fresh hop taste. Not outrageously good, but yummy.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2010 Bottle thanks to Maltzilla!
Opaque tan-tea color right on the border of grapefruit, some thin white wisps for a head. Heavy citrus component in the flavor, orange and lemon with light grapefruit, and some faint biscuit and grass. No significant caramel to speak of, even in the flavor, which has significantly more biscuit, still strong orange, and faint pine in the finish. The body is undercarbonated, leading to a juice extract quality, though the hop is fresh and nicely balanced by the pale malt. More body and bitterness would help this one, particularly as it steers clear of any messy sugars or caramel overload. In fact, if not for the watery carbonation, this would be quite nice.

Draft sample at the brewery as part of a tasting rack the night before Kate Day 2010. Pours a cloudy amber-gold color with a small off-white head. Aroma of citrusy hops, orange citrus, caramel malts, and floral notes. Flavor is a nice blend of those four notes along with some grass and herbal notes; really smooth and gentle. Tasted so fresh. Light-medium bodied, low-average carbonation for the style, and a mouthfeel not unlike an herbal tea. Not overly sweet or bitter, just a nice straightforward IPA.

On tap at the brewpub. Pour was amber orange, with smallish head and a very little bit of lacing. Some mild citrus aroma was present, but definitely not abundant. The flavor was a nice subtle blend of sweet malt and citrus and floral hops. The hop level on this was moderate. Marketed as an IPA, this one could have passed for a mild IPA or a bold American PA. Nothing spectacular, but nothing overtly amisss.

Thanks to rgtravers for this one! Pours orange with an off white head. The aroma is faint with tropical and citrus fruit. Orange, melon, guava, and mango. A little bit of bready malts. The flavor is the same with an herbal bitter finish and lots of breadiness. The hops seem a bit faded in this one. That aside, its a pleasant easy drinker.

Bottle sample. Clear orange pour, little carbonation and an aroma of syrupy hops and vanilla. Flavor was creamy orange, grapefruit and hops with a good lingering finish.
