3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Gold color with a solid, thick white head with tiny bubbles in the head and going up the sides of my glass. A light yeast and grassy aroma, more like green straw. A mild sweetness with mild grassy hops. Nothing off about any of it this is a fine pilsner

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 ounce bottle from The Root Cellar. Medium gold hue, medium white head, medium bittersweet aroma with the trademark Portsmouth Brewing
rotten vegetable smell in the backround, slightly astringent medium bittersweet flavor with some adjuncts. I’ve now given three of this place’s brews less than ringing endorsements but I have to admit, the brewery is still probably better than Portsmouth, Ohio deserves.

Tasted on tap at brewery. Pale yellow with nice white head and some good lacing. Taste is dry with mild sweetness and a medium to low malt and hippiness taste. Above average pilsner.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
3/05/2011: Portsmouth Pilsner... Aroma: Light and grassy with a hint of lemon. Appearance: Pale straw color with a chill haze; densely frothy off-white head that leaves scant lacing. Flavor: A bit funky at first, then biscuit, light grassy hops and some bitterness. Palate: Medium-light body; crisp, clean, and smooth. Overall: Decent, refreshing Pils.
Draught sample at Portsmouth Brewing in Portsmouth, Ohio. Rating #16 for this beer.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This is a very crafted beer, but the malt/hops ratio is a bit high for style due to insufficient hopping. It’s also rather light in color, being a very pale gold. It does have a head with nice size, density and durability, and very fine lacing. Very good to excellent as a light pilsner.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle at Wurst und Bier on 7/19/13. Clear gold in color with a thick white head. Aroma of malt, lager yeast and slight crisp hops. Malty and sweet flavor with a crisp finish. It was missing that dry finish that sets pilsners apart from the other lighter lagers.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Taster on tap at Dilly Deli. Labeled 5.2%. Clear golden color. Thin white head. Few dots of lace. Good, grassy, citrussy hop aroma. Nice toasty malt. Lighter sweet taste. Medium body. Light smooth carbonation. Lightly dry texture. Very solid, easy-drinking satisfyingly hoppy pils, with a good body.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent orange with foamy off-white head and lively carbonation. Smells skunky, doughy, and a little hoppy. Tastes like it smells, only better, with a solid mouthfeel. Not bad for what it is; beats a macro adjunct.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Clear, straw colored amber with short-lived head and small dots of lace. Taste is caramel malt with a carbonated edge for a finish. Easy to drink, probably easy to drink a lot, but very little going on here.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2014 12 oz. bottle shared by a friend- thanks, David! This one threw me off immediately. We both started talking about how cool the Portsmouth Brewpub was, not realizing I meant New Hampshire and he meant Ohio. Looks like I have a new place in state to go visit. Anyway, this one’s a clear gold brew with a small white head. Simple aroma; pale malts, grass, straw. Flavor is the same, with crackers and bread. Light-bodied, with medium carbonation and a crisp mouthfeel. Gets the job done. Re-rate: At the brewery. Better than the bottle.
