COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
German-style wheat ale. Mit hefe (with yeast) this cloudy, classic German ale is light in body yet big in flavor. Lots of clove and a bit of banana make a big aromatic presence

Draught at the brewery. Pours a murky orange haze with a small white head. Nose of lots of banana, clove, wheat, and yeast. Banana dominates a little much. Mouth feel is light bodied and smooth. Initial taste of wheat, banana and clove. Citrus is present with lots of sweetness lingering. Finishing with a floral hop balance. Very refreshing and drinkable. Palate duration is average. Good head retention and spot lacing of the glass. Good overall.

Muddy beige. No head. Big banana nose with light indistinct phenols and abundant wheat. Very sweet - sort of icing sugar sticky. Big banana and very sugary finish.

On tap at the brewery Pale hazy orange/yellow body, small white head that goes away too quickly Aromas of bubblegum and bananas light grain background along with the customary glove spice note Flavors are light wheat and sweet fruit bananas and orange almost no bitters here at all, light to medium body almost no carbonation at all I tend to drink this fairly often the only thing I wish was that the carbonation was increased. I due know if you get it from the downstairs tap the carbonation is slightly better. A good Hefe all an all

Draught, sample @ brewpub. Hazy, cloudy, orange with white cap. Sweet banana nose and solid lingering banana character throughout. Decent if a bit sweet and manages to avoid being cloying, which is nice.

VTHopHead (1511) - Barre, Vermont, USA - MAY 26, 2008
Draft at the brewpub - Poured a hazy amber in color with a bright white head that faded quickly. Aroma held lots of the classic clove/banana typical if the style and some citrus and bready yeast as well. Flavor was similar... yeasty with clove/banana and some citrus. An average hefe...

(Draft @ brewpub) Bubblicious!....Served in a shaker (they usually serve it with a lemon wedge but I declined). Cloudy light amber/gold body with a small off-white head. Aroma of yeast, wheat malt, citrus, lilies and other light florals. Mouthfeel light, wheaty smooth. Lightly sticky (a bit of a Portsmouth trademark). Some light, weepy, fleeting rings of lacing. Flavor of bubblegum, flowers and sweet malt. Yeasty. Good but quite bubblegummy.

(Rating #1693)

My Bottom Line:
Orange and banana juices flow onto the sweet cereals as doughy yeast is dropped onto the muddled result. All the right flavors are there, but for some reason I don’t find this Hefeweizen to be cohesive at all.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is barely a ring of foam to top the cloudy beige.
-The chosen yeast is very expressive; lots of banana esters and spicy, clovey phenols. Weihenstephaner’s perhaps?
-The relatively low carbonation does not help the mouthfeel at all.
-My glass was overly fruity and sweet to be all that drinkable. A rare dislike for me at this brewpub.

On tap at the brewpub.

22 oz. bottle purchased at the brewpub. Pours a hazy gold with a 1/2" white head. Nose is wheat, banannas and spice. Flavor is the same. An average hefe.

22 oz bottle, from brewpub. Pours a cloudy orangish gold body under a very fleeting fizzy white head that vanished almost completely. The nose is a slightly sour smelling wheat with a hefty dose of doughy yeast. A little caramel sweetness, and a hint of bubblegum. The flavor is quite sweet with minimal yeast influence. Too much risidual sweetness. Seems like a little yeast autolysis may have occured. Mouthfeel is way too heavy and thick for a Hefe, lots of heavy doughy stickiness. This is pretty horrorshow for a Hefe. This could pass for a bad Wheat Wine it’s so thick and heavy.
