Cask at GBBF 2012, at least I hope itís this version, as itís 8%... Black pour with coarse tan head. Green hops and treacle nose, initially sweet, then drying with assertive green hops, then softening again on the palate with apple and black treacle. Burnt bitter finish. Very nice.

On tap at the brewery. Pours black with a thick beige head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, a little cereal and oats, and light hops. Flavor about the same. Silky texture. A pretty good beer.

Bottle poured into snifter. This one was a disappointment. The aroma was almost like sour milk and it wasnít exactly pleasant to drink either. Seemed like it was way past itís prime and didnít stand the test of time because I think it was an older bottle.

Cask at GBBF 2010. A brown beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and yeast. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, fruits, and caramel.

Pours a solid black with just the faintest of brown highlights on the edges. A vigorous pour produced a minimal khaki head that dissipated quickly. Smells of toasted malts, roasted coffee, hints of milk chocolate and steeping grains as well. Tastes of creamy chocolate up front, roasted coffee and toasted malts mid way through with a long lingering roasted bitterness in a fairly dry finish. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, light carbonation and a slightly thin body. Very tasty brew. I could certainly see myself throwing a few of these back. That said I could have used a touch more body and maybe a hair more carbonation but I didnít take much off for that because it tasted so damn good.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and lactose. Flavor of sweet roasted malt, chocolate malt. Pretty good oatmeal stout, easy drinking (although not very complex). I also got to try this dry hopped with Warrior hops on cask , which was also good obviously more hoppy (although I didnít love the cask effect on it - wouldíve loved to try a tap version). This one is probably a little overhyped, but itís a pretty good oatmeal stout.

Cask gravity @ GBBF 2010. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty sweetish chocolate aroma. Roasted malty sweetish chocolate flavor. Has a fruity malty chocolate and coffee finish.

Bottle. Pours black with thin tan head. Watery. Nose of sweet chocolate, grain and oat. Taste is grainy water, some oats and chocolate, Thin. Might have waited too long to open this one.

On tap at Portsmouth brewpub. Pours out a dark brown topped with a nice brown head. Aroma was nice with lots of sweet roast malts, chocolate, and a little smoke. Taste was more of the rich roast, coffee, pit fruit, and a little bitterness on the end.

Bottle from Goodgrief. Pour was typical for an oaty stout, perhaps a bit short on the head but good nonetheless. The aroma was chocolate syrupy, grains, and a touch of smoke. Flavor followed, the oats breaking up the sweet chocolate syrup, smoke firming it up, caramel, and molasses too. Not a bad brew, hard to get good oat stouts in bottles, so cheers, cheers! Thanks, Tom!
