Trade with Hallinghansen AKA The Man. 33cl bottle. Pours black with a frothy but creamy beige head. Lovely nose and flavors of roast, chocolate, port, cherries, earth, charcoal , fruit and licorice. A tad too carbonated. Good vinousness. A bit of warmth.

Never say never. I am a huge fan of both Kate the Great and Black Albert, and I had pretty much given up on ever trying this one.. A huge thanks you to nerd for sharing this at DLD. The beer is a near black shade, with a thin, wispy head and a touch of lacing. The aroma is of roast, dark fruits, chocolate, yeast. The flavor really brings a good bit of both beers. A very intriguing blend. It’s like a slightly more complex Kate. The feel is medium bodied, with moderately low carbonation, smooth on the palate. Alcohol content is hidden well. Tasted on 12/26/11 from what looked to be somewhat of a 12oz hand bottle shared by JR, amazing opportunity, bottle number 41/48. Pours extremely dark molasses brown with a thin tan head that leaves very thin lacing. The nose is full of dusty dark chocolate, coffee, and dark chocolate covered raisin and prune fruity. The flavor is dark chocolate and coffee with the same dark fruity notes from the nose. The body is full with light carbonation and a long dark chocolate covered fruity and coffee finish.

Bottle shared at Redlight. Pours a dark black with a little brown lacing. Aroma of roasty chocolate. Slight taste of deep red wine, remarkably balanced and well done. Delicious

Kaporbert. Good roasted aroma. Almost black colour, seems cloudy. Good spicy malt flavour, alcoholic, but nicely balanced. Roasted aftertaste.

Huge, huge thanks to nerd for opening up a bottle of this at DLD 2011. Couldn’t have been more excited. Served in a SAVOR snifter. The pour is nearly black and appears to be fairly thick based on a quick swirl. The head is mocha and sticks around for a short while before falling into a thin collar with a few random swirls of a cap on top. The nose carries the Black Albert portion of the brew with some light fruity notes and a bit of a creaminess that I always associate with Black Albert. Chocolate, oak, and light roast come through after that. You can definitely pick out each of the beers, though I think Black Albert makes a stronger showing in the nose. The flavor doesn’t hit quite as well and the characteristics don’t meld as well as in the nose. There are some fruit notes as well as oak and chocolate. Some brown sugar there as well. A bit of a light creaminess throughout, which carries over into the feel. Fairly full body with lighter levels of carbonation, which brings through a nice smooth and cream-like finish. A very solid beer that I was beyond enthusiastic to try. Very, very enjoyable and a good day indeed. Thanks again, Mike. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-11-2011

HUGE thanks to Nerd for bringing this to DLD... as happy as I was to try, it was equally disappointing, really tasted like De Struise didn’t have have much to do with this, the least of their stouts to date... black body with a light tan head... nice nose of chocolate with dark fruits... the taste is disappointing, big time, its really bland chocolate, caramel, and a light bitter finish, no complex or rich like black albert, reminds me more of Kate... cool tick but disappointed

Well took a while to get to this but Bottle 30/48 - huge thanks to friends Paul/Kelly for talking to Chris at Ebenerzer’s and opening this up for my 30th birthday - and a nice extra touch by Chris to choose bottle 30. Have enjoyed both KtG and BA in the past but had no idea how this was going to work. Pours jet black with very little tan head. Lots of coffee, chocolate, toffee and fruit. Smooth medium mouthfeel, not quite coating everything, creamy. Finish with a little underwhelming but a very good beer.

Bottle at the Struise School. Black Albert on the aroma but more fruity. Black colour, lasting tan head. Some of that tar from the Portsmouth. It’s lovely, great dark fruits. Belgian yeast comes through more. More tar. However I did prefer the straight Portsmouth Imp Stout and also the Southampton Russian we had before both of these. But thanks a lot to Urbain for sharing this.

Bottle 34/48. Thanks to Woody639 via Chris Lively for the opportunity to taste this rarity. I was a bit skeptical on this one since I’ve been completely underwhelmed by KtG in the past, but I was glad to be able to try this nonetheless. A: Dark black, nearly opaque, with a tight collar of tan head that laced all the way down the tasting glass. S: Roastiness with hints of creamy vanilla and dark fruits. T: Roasty, chocolatey, hints of plum/fig. Alcohol mostly well-hidden. M: Beautiful creaminess, like a "softer" version of Black Albert. It was in the mouthfeel that I really felt the KtG influence in the blend, and it worked well. D: I would have been more than happy to drink the whole bottle. Went down very smoothly. Overall it’s an interesting experiment. I liked it more than KtG, but not quite as much as regular Black Albert, and that can only be attributed to the blend. Thanks again Ric.
