Sammys (428), Portland, Maine, USA Mar 23, 2004 On tap at the Portsmouth Brewery in Portsmouth, NH. Orange-yellow, almost completely absent aroma. Flavor was as expected, very wheaty with a strong hop finish. Similar to a strong Sierra Nevada Wheat, if you've ever had that, though this one I found more balanced. Good tasting and creative.
hopscotch (4588), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Sep 22, 2008 Updated: Sep 30, 2008Bottle… Post RBSG ’08 O-Town/Vero Beach Throwdown Chapter 8… Clear amber ale with orange highlights and a small, white head. The aroma is a mingling of cotton candy, ethanol and toffee. Full-bodied and lightly oily with minimal carbonation. The caramely flavor offers good balance, but is a touch hot and boozy… not that that scares me away at all. Warming, caramel-sweet finish. Kudos to Oakes and Beershine for providing the bottle! smith4498 (382), Miami, Florida, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Oakes and Beershine. Pours light brown caramel with minimal head. Wheat aroma with some alcohol coming through. Sweet malt and wheat flavors. Medium body with average carbonation. An interesting beer. mgumby10 (1650), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Aug 10, 2008 Courtesy Oakes and Beershine. Pours a clear copper color, with a small off white head. Smells of sweet dark malts, sweet fruits, bready yeast, and a bit of wheat, although it wasnt clearly defined. The flavor is much of the same. Lots of bready fruity yeast flavors coming through, with a hop bitterness to it that tingles the palate. The alcohol presence was also quite evident as I got some heat in the finish. Havent had a lot of wheat wines, but I thought this was decent. acrdz (4372), Boulder, Colorado, USA Aug 5, 2008 Sample from a bottle. Medium cloudy orange copper appearance. Heavy creamed caramel malt in the nose, some sharp and hoppy honey scented hops, clouded a bit, I think, but the heavy alcohol and caramel character. Big, sticky, but thankfully not overly sweet... chewy caramel all over this thing, a light white wine character in the back p;lays nicely with the heavy, thick and syrupy malt. Little to no wheat character but that seems just fine with this one. TURDFERGUSON (1153), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 4, 2008 22oz bottle, provided by IPFreely, Saturday at BCTC. Thanks, Tim! Had a mild syrupy presence (much like the imperial ipa I had right before it), some brown sugar, citrus and a bit of an alcoholic burn in the finish. I liked the nose a bit more than the flavor, but overall thought this was pretty good.
