wilderthanyou (410), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Oct 23, 2008 Maybe its because this is my first every pumpkin ale, but I think this stuff is fantastic. Pours a golden amber with a rocky foamy head that dissolves to nothing. The aroma is moms pumpkin pie bang on, lots of spice, clove and nutmeg being most prominent. Flavour is a bit of a let down considering the spot on aroma, but still pretty damn tasty, with strong notes of clove and nutmeg upfront, a touch of sweet pumpkin in the middle, some sour hop bitterness at the end and a smooth malty finish. VeloVampire (483), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 21, 2008 355 ml bottle - clear deep golden with off-white head that laces beautifully. Hugely spicy and hoppy aroma - really powerful, but appetizing. Very spicy flavour as well, but there are a good amount of hops in there too - nothing subtle about this one. Quite dry on the palate, and fairly light-bodied. I get a bit of actual pumpkin too, unlike many pumpkin ales that are all spice. Maybe a bit too over the top - it doesn’t make me want to have more than one, though this is a good sipper for fall. pootzboy (1037), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada Oct 21, 2008 Updated: Oct 23, 2008Bottle:
Decants a clear amber-orange ale to the glass with a disappointing short lived rocky cap. Goes to a ring that leaves some lacing.
Interesting aroma: subtle cinnamon-nutmeg with grassy hops and a distinct herbaceous-vegetable mustiness from the roast pumpkin.
Front side has a piercing character from annoying over-carbonation but mellows mid palate where you get a distinct biscuity-dry-hoppy amber ale character mingling with the expected pumpkin spicing and earthy pumpkin tastes...finishes slightly bitter and clean with minimal after taste.
A decent enough pumpkin ale but I think a tad over-hyped skibumphishead (180), USA Oct 20, 2008 12oz bottle from Chris. The aroma is cinnamon and hops. It tastes like Pumpkin Pie and I love Pumpkin Pie. Brooklyn Brewery rocks. There is a little nutty flavor and more hops in the finish. I’ll buy this one again. TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Oct 19, 2008 355 mL bottle. Amber-orange with a small, short-lived pale beige head. Aroma is milder than some others of the style, but still has the usual blend of pumkin and spices. Flavour is, of course full of pumkin, with cinnamon standing out in front of the others. There is some bitterness as well, which may come from the spices rather than hops. Dryer and crisper than some of the others as well. Not bad. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Oct 19, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear orange/amber color with a two finger off white head. Aroma of spices and pumpkin. Flavor was the same with a hoppy finish that balances the beer well. Medium body with good carbonation and a crisp mouthfeel. ScoWRee (275), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 18, 2008 Pours a golden orange with a one inch thick off white foany head. Aroma of Pumplin and spice. Taste of hops, pumpkin, nutmeg and clove. JesseM (661), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Oct 18, 2008 Updated: Oct 25, 200812oz bottle from the LCBO. Pours a slightly dark orange with a large, off-white head, that actually laces the glass really well eventually. Aroma is really nice, all the pumpkin ale awesome deliciousness you’d expect, spices, fuller malt presence, some extra ’zing’ of nutmeg, or something, and something I’m not used to in the style, hops. The flavour is more of the same with definite hop bite in the finish which balances out a very sweet beer and is a very nice aspect to my palate. Really nice malty aftertaste with a hint of the pumpkin. Very characteristic malts and hops of this brewery. Very nicely done!
