sfontain (506), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 25, 2008 Amber pour with a significant, white, fizzy head that dissipates into a relatively large ring; lots of lacing down the glass. Aroma of orange, bread, pumpkin and spices (allspice and maybe cloves and nutmeg). Flavor is quite bready and spicy; surprisingly bitter. Full, frothy, non-sticky body. Really, so much better than the Saranac pumpkin beer I just had; almost a pumkin IPA; I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin beers, but this is easily one of the better ones. M0RHI (1067), Luxembourg, Luxembourg Mar 21, 2008 Bottle, thanks to cgarvieuk. Pours a orangey brown with a thin off-white head. Nose is pumpkiny, sour and meaty, some substance there, not too flimsy, handful of spices, cloves and cinnamon, quite a warm hoppy tone too. Mouth is quite grating, bit sour, but also warm and sweet, plenty of cinnamon, nutmeg, some earthy tumeric and sugar, but a bit of a sourness still creeps through from something that could have been entirely pleasant. Leaves some warm sweet and sour tones. Alright, very different, like the spices, but not huge on the pumpkin. (Rating #1467) datebeer (23), brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 6, 2008 Have you ever burned squash, and then tried to cover it up with cinnamon and sugar...? The truth is that I actually like this beer. It has heart and youth to it; it has liveliness. For the price, it’s memorable and approachable. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 3, 2008 Pours a fully clouded orange brown. No head in my Duvel tulip. Nose is very mild pumpkin pie with spices. Flavor is actually pretty decent. So many of these pumpkin ales are disasters. This one comes off fairly well. Nice balance of spices that don’t under-do it and don’t overdo it. Feel has a good carbonation to it and the liquid is decent as well. Overall a pretty good pumpkin ale here. Can’t say I would go for it again as I just don’t really care for this style, but you might as well give it a shot at least once. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Feb 2, 2008 on tap at the hop devil grill, 10/25/07. light clear copper color, thick foamy light tan head. aroma is a little sour grassy, light spice. flavor is dry & grassy like a lager, hoppy and lightly bitter/earthy. gets more caramel malt in the middle, then dry sour grassy in the finish. some spice in the middle too, nutmeg? more caramel malt taste as it gets warmer. a bit more like an octoberfest than a pumpkin beer. high carbonation. BorksBabe (81), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 29, 2008 This beer tastes more like a weak IPA than a Pumpkin ale. It’s aroma is misleading- sweet and fruity. The flavor is more malt and barley, and I sense NO trace of pumpkin... Very spicy and bitter on the palate. Crisp, not smooth at all. Appearance is cloudy, dark amber. Nice color. Overall I’m not impressed, but the commercial description is pretty right on... if you like this type of ale.... I had to drink cranberry juice afterward to get the bitter aftertaste out of my mouth!!!! blklab2007 (942), Connecticut, USA Jan 16, 2008 bottle poured a light golden amber in color with good initial carbination producing a white one finger head. aroma has the typical spices, slight pumpkin, malt, and light alcohol. lighter mouth feel makes way for malt and spice although not as over spiced as some make the mistake of doing. fairly middle of the road as far as pumpkins go in my book.
