travita (1861), Frisco, Texas, USA Oct 21, 2009 Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. The look is clear, white colored head, and copper in color. The smell is sweet, very pumpkin, and spiced but not in a good pumpkin pie way. The taste is water, pumpkin, and not good. FunkyBrewster (437), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 20, 2009 On tap at Clark Street Ale House in Chicago. Pours a dark orange amber color with a small white head. Aroma is spicy with a lot of cinnamon and ginger. A decent amount of toasted malt and a bit of a metallic graininess. Flavor is even spicier, lots of ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon really pushing through, with just a bit of sweet malt that overlies the vegetal notes and earthy hops that are present through the finish. Medium body and an active biting carbonation. Not a great pumpkin ale. slimchill (775), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 19, 2009 Bottle. Nose is sweet, spicy, and slightly roasty. Gold-copper with nicely lacing thin white head. Flavor is simple, dominated by the pie spices with a mildly sweet finish. Not exciting, but a solid beer in a boring style. Slacks (481), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Oct 18, 2009 Bottle: Pours light amber, nice thick white head and great thin bubbles rising up to it. Terrific pumpkin aroma hits you first, quickly followed by the pumpkin spice trinity of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. Digging deeper there’s a definite floral hop note coming through with some toffee-like malts. I’m liking this so far. Sweeter than expected with lots of that toffee, little bit of a grassy aftertaste, and an unexpected spice "burn" rising up after. Noticeable pumpkin and the right amount of hoppy bitterness. This is complex, tasty. May not be the highest rated pumpkin ale on RB but it’s my favourite thus far. Gethinbeer (997), Nova Scotia, Canada Oct 17, 2009 From bottle, Thanks to JoeMcphee. Aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon. Amber colour with a thin white lace. Nice bitter texture. Flavour of pumpkin with subtle spiciness which gives it a nice tang. Little thin maybe but still a good pumpkin ale. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Oct 17, 2009 Put straight up against St. Ambroise Citrouille Pumpkin Ale.
Big white foamy cap that has some staying power and a bit of ropy lacing on top of a deep orange brew. The aroma is off but ok. Heavy on pumpkin with a ton of allspice followed at a distance by cloves, almost comes across as freshly shaken dry spices in a bag (huff in the cloud!). A bit of earth as well to go with an obvious vegetable presence. The taste is also very spiced.. very spiced indeed as it goes way beyond the pumpkin taste. In fact.... WHERE IS THE PUMPKIN??? I don’t necessarily need a mouth full of pumpkin pie but some would be nice. The spice has a sour tart effect backed by a biscuit base. This dirty taste is bothering me. Long after taste. Winner - St. Ambroise hands down. RollinHard (750), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Oct 16, 2009 Pours clear burnt orange with a slight red tint and a small white head that fades quickly to a ring. Aroma of nutmeg, cinnemon, plants, and toffee. Tastes pretty basic with flavors of toffee, nutmeg, cinnemon, earthy hops, and toast. Finishes pretty dry with lingering spice sensations, nutmeg, toast, and earthy hop char. Light bodied prickly carbonation and empty body. Not really much here, seems watered down and certainly lesser than Punkin. Butters (1623), Virginia, USA Oct 15, 2009 Pours a clear amber with fair near white head. Nose is lightly typical pumpkin spices and about the same in the flavor, with just a hint of citrus tang on the finish. About average I guess.
