tagz (334), USA Sep 11, 2007 Updated: Feb 1, 2009growler. pours hazy orange with respectable foamy white head. aroma of malt, and some faint ginger bread, cinnamon. first thing that hit me on taste was the great balance. there’s a decent amount of bittering hops in there that really round out the flavor. the pumpkins i’ve tried were all spice over the top of malt and it just gets a little stale on the palate. the spices are more subtle here but its a very well rounded, flavor. there’s some sweet vegetal (pumpkin i assume) on the exhale. nice mild but crisp carbonation. definitely let this guy warm. it tastes like a standard pumpkin beer when cold but the flavors really come out and it gets incredibly smooth as it sits.
tried this in bottles. unfortunately they were rather flat, and the spice and hops were tempered. i’m guessing it was the batch... or too much light exposure. boo. Ritterkreuz (179), Seneca Falls, New York, USA Sep 10, 2007 The first thing that hit me was the aroma. Wow, this is is a great smelling beer, the spice really comes through. Pours out orange/copper, and the nutmeg and cinnamon are very well balanced. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 9, 2007 355 ml. Slightly murky copper-orange with a medium head that lasts and leaves thick sticky lace. Aroma is nutmeg, slight cinnamon, nutty malt and maybe some Fuggles? Flavor is earthy molasses with a British ale twang. Nutmeg and cinnamon show up in the middle and aftertaste; thankfully they are understated and accent the flavors well, instead of overpowering as some pumpkin ales tend towards. Very smooth and nearly medium bodied, with a little tingle. Seems like an ESB pumpkin ale. Excellent take on the style. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 9, 2007 Draught at Yeoman’s Road pub, courtesy of Degarth. Thanks Joe. Golden orange body, creamy white head with nice retention. Aromas of cinnamon, pumpkin spice, nutmeg, allspice, malts. Flavor is light pumpkin, sweet malts, nutmeg and toffee. Medium bodied, a touch watery at the end. Palate is sticky, soft carbonation. Finish is spice, medium length. alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Sep 8, 2007 Bottle; for those that like pumpkin, this is a good one. I don’t really enjoy all that much, but can tell it was well done. Flavor of pumpkin, cinnamon and other spice. blindeyedbetty (148), Arlington, Virginia, USA Sep 8, 2007 Warm spicy aroma of nutmeg reminiscent of fall. Pours a beautiful burnt seinna/copper color, very much what I had hoped for in tasting my first pumpkin beer. Thin but carbonated mouthfeel, initially bready taste followed in middle palate with earthy, yeasty tones to finish with mild hoppy cinnamon notes. All in all a nice experience for my first foray into a pumpkin beer - good enough to keep trying them, but could have been a bit heavier for me in keeping with fall and cooler weather. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Sep 8, 2007 Appearance: Pours a bright, cheery copper body with a lush, eggshell-colored head.
Smell: A fairly bland aroma, with only a minimal amount of pumpkin and spices.
Taste: Light, sweet bready maltiness with an all too mild pumpkin flavor. The spices surface just before the dry, lightly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: After finishing the entire bottle, it’s hard not to come down with a small case of hurt feelings, especially if you don’t have a rich, delicious Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale to follow it up with. nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 5, 2007 The aroma is a bit odd but I do detect pumpkins and spice (nutmeg). There is also caramel, biscuits, and yeast. The appearance is amber with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall I like this quite well.
