I’m big on the nutmet. The mouthfeel is relatively creamy and the flavors are considerably sweet. a hint of pumpkin, bready yeast, cinnamon, nutmeg, wheat. the flavors are not semi-well-balanced and finish dry. unclemattie (2401), Georgia, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 22, 2006 Sampled this at the Great Decatur Beer Tasting Festival. At first sip I thought of candy. Now it’s just a beer. No spice? Amber color. thin, invisible head. Good be better. JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 20, 2006 12 oz bottle. Deep golden/amber beer. Creamy white head. Aroma of nutmeg and allspice. Also a light sugary sweetness and a nice caramel maltiness. Some zesty/spicy hop aroma as well that differentiates this from other pumpkin beers I’ve had recently. Flavour is a bit thin and hot though. Spices seem a bit stale and woody rather than bright. Decent malt profile but it tastes quite alcoholic for something that only rings in at 5% ABV. Herbal hop bitterness an the back. Meh, I could take it or leave it. HopBackDoc (393), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 20, 2006 On tap at the Blue Dog Tavern. Pours an amber color, not much head. Faint aroma of spices and malts. Flavor was dominated by the pumpkin pie spices, although I could detect some pumpkin in there. An average pumpkin ale at best. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 17, 2006 I am tasting this one along side Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale by Anheuser-Busch. The Post Road Pumpkin Ale is a clear amber/copper color with moderate carbonation, no head, and very little crown (pretty much identical in appearance to the Jack’s Pumpkin Spice). Aroma is subtle hops and pumpkin with a dash of cinnamon spice. The flavor is malt, some pumpkin, and a little spice. The malt, bitterness, pumpkin, and spice seems to be pretty well balanced, but all are kind of weak and suppressed. The finish seems a bit medicinal and thin. Medium body and a good level of carbonation.
I really like all the brews from Brooklyn Brewery except for this one. Their Post Road Pumpkin Ale is their most disappointing offering. It’s better than the Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale and some of the other pumpkin ales available, but I really think that Brooklyn could have done better. So far the Southampton Pumpkin Ale is my top pick pumpkin ale.
