HopBackDoc (393), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 20, 2006 On tap at the Blue Dog Tavern. Pours an amber color, not much head. Faint aroma of spices and malts. Flavor was dominated by the pumpkin pie spices, although I could detect some pumpkin in there. An average pumpkin ale at best. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Oct 17, 2006 I am tasting this one along side Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale by Anheuser-Busch. The Post Road Pumpkin Ale is a clear amber/copper color with moderate carbonation, no head, and very little crown (pretty much identical in appearance to the Jack’s Pumpkin Spice). Aroma is subtle hops and pumpkin with a dash of cinnamon spice. The flavor is malt, some pumpkin, and a little spice. The malt, bitterness, pumpkin, and spice seems to be pretty well balanced, but all are kind of weak and suppressed. The finish seems a bit medicinal and thin. Medium body and a good level of carbonation.
I really like all the brews from Brooklyn Brewery except for this one. Their Post Road Pumpkin Ale is their most disappointing offering. It’s better than the Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale and some of the other pumpkin ales available, but I really think that Brooklyn could have done better. So far the Southampton Pumpkin Ale is my top pick pumpkin ale.
12 oz bottle, $1.60 from The Party Source. AlKHall (161), West Hartford, Connecticut, USA Oct 17, 2006 disappointing.....flat with minimal taste. I could barely detect the pumkiness or spices- very light, some hop bitterness but little else to comment on. wheninhell (485), louisville, Kentucky, USA Oct 17, 2006 amber with a dissapearing white head. nice balanced malty pumpkin and pumpkin spice aroma. bittersweet pumpkin and spice flavor with a bit of hops. spices shine through on finish. fairly bitter. medium-light body. Slinger (91), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Oct 16, 2006 12 oz- Pours a nice orange-red with a tan bubbly head. Hoppy scent but bland taste. Hard to detect spices for a pumpkin ale. Rather flat. duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England Oct 13, 2006 Bottle. Quite sweet, with some light pumkin very subtle cinamon notes. very clean and a little bit on the bland side. Fairly sweet. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Oct 11, 2006 Bottle (from Bitter Virtue). Deep coppery brown colour. Moderately attractive nose the clean malt combines well with the aromatic fruit of the pumpkin. The spicing wasnt quite so great with warm cinnamon, hints of nutmeg and almost peppery notes - whilst individually attractive I felt the cinnamon was overdone and overrode the subtleties that could have been presented. The final element of the nose was a faint (or imagined) baked buttery dairy product feel which was distracting and uncomplementary. In the mouth this was not bad, the nutmeg became more apparent and the sweetness was mild and balanced with a smattering of hops creating a soft bitterness. Unfortunately the finish left something to be desired - thin and spritzy with hints of yeast, (quite reminscent, but not as bad, of wit I made several years ago where I burnt the wort and to top matters of it became infected) the poor feeling of the finish grew as I drank the beer. Some nice elements but doesn’t quite come together and that finish doesnt agree with me. Tmoney99 (4655), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 10, 2006 Bottle. Poured clear orange amber with a large fizzy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Heavy pumkin pie spicy aroma. Moderate body with a sticky texture with soft carbonation. Medium sweet spicy flavor with a medium sweet spice finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.
