Commercial Description:
Bottle; Filtered.
Post Road Pumpkin Ale is a revival of a beer brewed by the early American colonists. Pumpkins were plentiful, flavorful and nutritious and they blended nicely with barley malt. Hundreds of pumpkins are blended into each batch of Post Road Pumpkin Ale, creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, biscuity malt center and crisp finish. Post Road Pumpkin Ale is spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Bottle (from Bitter Virtue). Deep coppery brown colour. Moderately attractive nose the clean malt combines well with the aromatic fruit of the pumpkin. The spicing wasnt quite so great with warm cinnamon, hints of nutmeg and almost peppery notes - whilst individually attractive I felt the cinnamon was overdone and overrode the subtleties that could have been presented. The final element of the nose was a faint (or imagined) baked buttery dairy product feel which was distracting and uncomplementary. In the mouth this was not bad, the nutmeg became more apparent and the sweetness was mild and balanced with a smattering of hops creating a soft bitterness. Unfortunately the finish left something to be desired - thin and spritzy with hints of yeast, (quite reminscent, but not as bad, of wit I made several years ago where I burnt the wort and to top matters of it became infected) the poor feeling of the finish grew as I drank the beer. Some nice elements but doesn’t quite come together and that finish doesnt agree with me.

Bottle. Poured clear orange amber with a large fizzy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Heavy pumkin pie spicy aroma. Moderate body with a sticky texture with soft carbonation. Medium sweet spicy flavor with a medium sweet spice finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

Draught. Pours bronze with moderate head. Biscuity malts are right, although cinnamon and nutmeg balance are not. Okay, but certainly does not compare with seasonal pumpkin ales available in the northeast.

Pours a nice looking copper with small but plentiful carbonation. Sweet malt aroma with various pumpkin spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and hints of allspice. Very nice. The flavor has a malty pumpkin taste with cinnamon and nutmeg. Hoppy spicy bitter finish. Medium semi-dry body, a bit on the thin side though. This smells better than it tastes.

Pours a great bright pumpkin-orange color. Malty and pumpkiny with a background of warm spices. Like a dry liquid pumpkin pie. Something different and definitely worth a try if you like pumpkin.
