There is a strong pumpkin flavor not overpowering but well balanced. Definately an easy drinker for non-pumpkin fans. blatantdream (78), New York, New York, USA

High carbonation and nice balance between the spices and pumpkin, however this also means that the pumpkin does not stand out on its own. Overall pretty good pumpkin ale if you like it more spiced than distinctly pumpkin. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 6, 2005 (12 oz bottle, obtained in trade, thanks Shadey!) A bold pumpkin ale! This distinctive, flavorful pumpkin ale features a solid base of bready, sweet maltiness, plus a very spicy flavor, especially cinnamon, and a balancing bitterness from both the spices and hops. Very nice maltiness. The finish is a bit unpleasant, though, as the malt subsides and the spices dominate. The nose is spicy, but very malty as well. Medium bodied at first, but the palate thins in the finish. Amber color. The off-white head gradually settles to a thin film, but some large solid patches of lacing remain on the glass. I tend to not like spiced beers, but I kind of like this one because it has such a nice malty flavor and nose, and is complemented by spices, rather than it being spice driven with the malt being an afterthought. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 20, 2004 Orange/amber body with a small whitish head that settles quickly. Aroma is strongly reminiscent of pumpkin pie. Notes of pumpkin, cinnamon, and allspice permeate the nose. Flavor is mostly malt with hints of pumpkin, alcohol, hops, cinnamon, and other spices thrown in. A bit watery. Not nearly as flavorful as it smells. Finishes with a nice bitterness, a scotch-like character, and some pumpkin pie flavor. Overall, this is an okay seasonal beer but not much more than a novelty. I strongly prefer Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale. I am eager to sample other beers of this style. beastdog75 (337), Brick, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2004 Pours a copper/orange color. Has pumpkin and spice flavors present of course, but it also has somewhat of a drying citric hop bitterness in the finish as well. More "beery" than I expected, the pumpkin doesn’t dominate the brew. Decent. Lubiere (4491), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Sweet malt and balanced pumpkin pie spices. Very pleasant. Medium bodied. BearBrewer (86), New York, east village, New York, USA
