Gravity cask at GBBF 2014, 12/08/14. Pours a dark coke colour with an off white head. Dusty, light dark chocolate aroma with a little coffee. Light to medium body. Sweet with some milk chocolate, caramel, lemon, grass, light orange. Its a bit thin, but its OK.

Cask at the 2014 GBBF. Caramel brown coloured pour with a halo of cream head. Aroma is earthy nutty roast , light spiced on the mose. Flavour is choc, earthy roast . palate is a bit thin and low carbonation. A bit watery. Lingering choc.

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 5/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 14/20
Alengrin (1294) - BELGIUM - JUL 25, 2014
Recent but much appreciated dark mild with a yellowish beige head and very dark reddish brown colour; aroma of dark fruits, dates, raisins, caramel, butter (diacetyl) but also a lot of roasted malts (coffee, bitter chocolate) which I had not expected in this style and reminds me more of a stout. Fruity taste, soft and buttery, caramel, creamy, gently evolving to a dry, roasted bitter finish. Interesting but not a ’real’ or at least typical mild to me.

Philym (983) - St Neots, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - DEC 3, 2013
Appearance: Clear dark brown, no head. Aroma: Chocolate, toast, grassy/hay, stewed prunes. Taste: Low sweetness and bitterness, medium sourness. Palate: Smooth thick texture, light body, low/average carbonation, citric sharpness and sourness in a lingering chocolate malty finish. Comments: Tasty, strong acetic notes, a bit like a Flemish sour ale.

Not black but darkest possible brown. Did not like the sulphur aroma. The taste is full of contradiction: sour, yeast, roast malt, coffee, herbs. Nice sweet finish. OK overall.

Lovely tasting full bodied ale with a mild texture. It is mild roasted with a slightly sweet aroma.

500ml bottle. interesting to read other reviews and i agree. Extremely potent and heavy for what it is. massively full on flavour. Tastes of very strong coffee/alcohol/toffee. Very nice but cannot have more than one.
