The birth of Pilsener beer can be traced back to its namesake, the ancient city of Plzen which is situated in the western half of the Czech Republic. The Czech Pilsener is light straw to golden color and crystal clear. Hops are very prevalent usually with a spicy bitterness and or a spicy floral flavor and aroma, notably one of the defining characteristics of the Saaz hop. Smooth and crisp with a clean malty palate, many are grassy. Some will show some archaic yeast characteristics similar to very mild buttery flavors and aromas

On draught at the Potosi brewpub in Southwestern Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear golden yellow colored brew, some carbonation bubbles with a thick white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind excellent lacing. Aroma of golden grain malt with grassy hops,a hint of white pepper and crisp crystal malt. Taste is light to medium bodied, sharp grassy hop bitterness with golden grain malt and some extra carbonation. Finish is semi-dry, grassy hop bitterness that slowly disappears. Much hopper and less fruity than the regular Potosi pilsener. Definitely a solid Czech style pilsener.

Nice clean and refreshing Pilsener. Golden in color, clear, minimal head, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, Overall I really enjoyed this beer. I’m surprised it isn’t rated much higher.

12oz bottle brought back from the Midwest. Poured a clear golden yellow color with a small white head. Aroma was notes of biscuit, malt, some light earthy hops. Flavor was crisp lagered beer - sweet malts. Pretty good, easy to drink and despite it being a bit high, sessionable.

Pours a very pale golden with many effervescent bubbles. The head is of a medium size, retains it’s self well, and leaves a nice lace on the glass. The aroma is fairly faint but has notes of fresh hay, wildflowers, and a light toastiness. The beer has a bright malty flavor, very clean, very crisp, and moderately dry with a nice mild dose of spicy hops. There is a sort of a perfumey character to the flavor of this beer that throws it off a tad, but overall I like the flavor of this beer quite a bit.. The beer finishes a bit watery but the carbonation is soft and very pleasant.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2014 Very bread based in every way, decently malty as well. Among the better Potosi beer.

Picked up on a visit to the brewery and restaurant. Went great with the warm pretzel, brat burger and beer cheese soup. The National Brewery Museum is worth a tour. This pilsener is smooth, crisp and clean with a malty finish.

Pours a clear, pale gold with a frothy white head that has excellent retention as it is replenished by a fairly high effervescence. Aroma is floral and spicy hops, buttered white bread toast, cereal grain, straw and a slightly sweet almost nutty grain note. Flavor is stale bread, sweet grain, cereal, spicy, grassy and floral hops a touch of bready yeast and a sort of salty note that lingers a bit. Fairly light bodied with a very slightly oily entry, medium to high carbonation and dry finish. I think this would most likely be better with a little more mineral profile to the water, the slight saltiness doesn’t do the nicely attractive hop profile justice.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear straw yellow with soapy white head. The aroma is hay and some herbal hops and a subtle bready malt note. The flavor is quite herbal with some wood and cracker notes. The finish is woody with just a little bit of a metallic note and a dryish hop bite. Not outstanding, but pretty easy to drink.
