4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a deep brown almost black with a big head. The aroma is lots of chocolate, mild hops with some earthy and floral character in there as well. The flavor is fruity, not in an overbearing way... or even a dominant way, but it’s the first thing that hits you when you taste it. There is plenty of roasty coffee and a lot of nice hop bitterness. There is a mild smokiness to the beer as well. Overall this was the best beer I had on Saturday.
This is a world class porter and a crown jewel in the lineup of a very new, but very welcome addition to the Southwest WI brewing scene.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2010 Pours dark brown (might have appeared nearly black if I weren’t facing the window) with a tall, creamy beige head that has great retention and leaves a little lacing. Aroma is chocolate, mild roast, dark caramel, maybe a hint of coffee and light woody hops. Flavor is big on dark caramel, mild roast, sweet chocolate, a touch of very mild coffee and lightly bitter, planty and woody hops. Palate is light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation level creamy entry and lightly dry finish. This is a really well put together porter, one that I could see myself buying once in a while if it were available in bottles. Edit; 12.01.10: This rating is of Potosi American Porter sampled ~07.18.10, the bottled version may be aliased, but does not taste like the same beer.
