Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish red pour with white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, toffee, hints of grass, orange peel, orange into a bit of fruity notes, hints of floral and herbal notes. Taste is a mix of herbal, grassy, earthy notes into a bit of grain, some caramel, toffee, touch of orange, grapefruit, finishing fairly bitter, slightly sweet. Like this one, pretty nice and very interesting.

Growler from Kristen at RBSG! Deep orange pour with a small soapy head. Floral hops and biscuits. Crisp yet smooth on the palate. Slight bitter finish. Very good!

Autumn Brew Review, 2012. I was not happy with labeling this as an English Strong Ale, but I think it is the best option. I might have chosen old ale, but the hop character is too strong for that. Good aroma of fruity hops and grass. Sweet malt flavor with fruit. I like this.

Hazy copper color with a large head. Earthy and spicy hop aroma. Pounding bitterness. Solid malt flavor with a hint of caramel, but mostly buried under bitterness. Full body, moderate carbonation. Style-wise, this is probably like a raw American-style Barleywine with English ingredients.

I’ll agree that English Strong Ale isn’t a great style designation for this beer, because many of those beers are a bit richer, with a darker (more ruby) color and oily mouthfeel. The aroma on this was wonderful--I had rosemary and bubblegum, with maybe a hint of basil, and a lot of floral qualities in amongst the herbal. The first tasting brought a real smack at the finish, but then later my mouth adjusted and there was a reasonably rounded hop finish, though once or twice it felt more purely astringent, esp. after the carbonation had left it. Orange, hazy. Really good stuff. This is a brewery that is at its best when it doesn’t even try to brew to style guidelines...which is the way it should be. I did appreciate hearing that they did treat the water to try to get the Burton qualities. (on tap at brewery)

Growler sampled at RBSG. From notes. loads of earthy and floral hops with a little breakfast biscuit. I like this quite a bit.

Sampled on tap at Pour Decisions. Pours a copper color with white head. Caramel, earthy, bitter, toast flavors. Alright.

Darkish amber pour. Some white head. Nose is hoppy, a bit floral. Holy biscuits batman!! Still quite hoppy. A dark fruit bitterness in the finish. Very nice.

On tap September 28, 2013 at ABR. Orangish brown pour with some head. Granted it was getting late in the event, but this didn’t do much for me. With a name like this, the beer needs to be so good you would consider leaving your spouse for it.
