COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Patersbier starts with perfumed floral hops, ripe pomme fruit, spice and candied citrus; there’s a slight biscuit character on a dry, crisp finish. The monastic tradition looms large over every brewer, and this is truly a beer spirited away from a monk’s table.

Quite a tasty brew from such simple ingredients. A clean, yeast derived spicy aroma from the start. Flavor is a battle between citrus and biscuit. Hop bitterness is suprisingly high, but works well for this beer. Another nice offering from Pour Decisions.

On tap at Stouts Pub pours a clear golden/yellow with a small white head. Aroma is pretty muted, sweet and malty. Taste of sweet caramel malts, bready, some citrus hop, and light Belgian spice. Drinkable, especially for a style I’m not a huge fan of so that is saying a lot for me, but nothing amazing.

On tap at Stout’s Pub. Pours a golden color with white head. Straw, hay, earthy aromas. Straw, belgian yeast flavors. Meh

Tap at Punch in Eden Prairie. Clear dark yellow pour, light carbonation and an aroma of light sweet malt/sugar. Flavor is also a hiny of candi sugar, a little pear and some nice fruity esters while finishing very dry. Nice beer, I’d buy this regularly if the price was right.

Tap at Stout’s Pub. Pours bright gold with a quick little white head that fades quickly. Aroma is absolutely dead, I can not smell anything! If I guess, there may be some light lemon and malty yeast notes. Taste has light banana lemon and yeast along with malt. Palate is thin crisp and finishes dry. Pretty refreshing!

"Truly a beer spirited away from a monk’s table"? Well, no, because historically monks drank a much lower abv. Other "Patersbiers" brewed for the monks (fathers) themselves are usually lighter versions of the beers they now sell commercially. See, Petite Orval at under 4%. At any rate, this is a beer of some interest, with notable hopping and a lingering bitterness, and a good deal of citrus/spice. I described this to my friends (with whom I was sharing it) as flat pear cider, and at least one of them said, "yeah, that’s a good description". (growler from brewery)

Light blond with no head. Little aroma. Flavor is mild a bit tart and cidery. Interesting but not amazing.

Tap at the brewery. Golden color with a tall white head. Very perfumy and floral aroma. Flavor of floral hops, light grain, and some honey. Light yeast character. Moderately bitter. Excellent
