4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of chicory coffee, moderate roast and bitter chocolate. Appearance is pitch black with a tight, creamy brown head. Flavor has a nice level of bitterness with the coffee and chocolate, the finish is very light. Palate is oily (power of suggestion? No.) and creamy. A really, really well made stout- no frills, but just an expertly crafted example of the style.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft sample at IBG Winterfest 2009.
Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.
My expectations where more then met.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample at 2008 Indy Microbrewers Fest - Aroma of dark roasted malts, meaty, ashy, chocolate and some hops. Pours black with a brown head. Flavor matches aroma and is very roasty and smokey. Palate is dry and ashy. Tasty but nothing I would drink a lot of in one sitting.

Black pour with a cream chocolate head. Nose is prominent with chocolate and coffee. A little thin considering the name. Taste matches nose.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the brewery: Midnight black pour with a short mocha head. The nose was hard to detect out of the pint glass, but light nights of chocolate and roast were detectable. The body was nice and full, with that classic lactose induced mouthfeel. Lots of roasted malt, fudge and coffee notes come alive in the body. A slight metallic tinge on the back of the tongue brings this down for me, but a really respectable attempt on their small scale system.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at brewery. Solid sweet stout that is easy to drink though it leaves a very slight off taste in the finish. Black body with a nice tan head that didn’t stick around. The nose was full of roasted malt, chocolate and a hint of coffee. The flavor was moderately sweet and moderately bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. A coffee-like bitterness stuck around for awhile. Tastes of sweet milk, char, licorice and a metallic aftertaste. Medium body, average carbonation. Soft texture. Very nice.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at "brewery" and served in pint glass: I only had time for a couple but found that was not gonna be an issue since they only had one of their beers on tap, nice guest tap list however (but still disappointing): Jet black hue with a small fading frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of coffee, charred malt, chocolate, lactic twang, fig and plum, herbal hops, and a earthy yeast esters. The taste starts mildly sweet but a kick of lactic sourness and fruit helps the balance. The finish is bitter with a coffee and hop character. The mouth feel is soft and medium-bodied with a moderate astringent finish. All in all a solid offering, hope to try more of the beers from the new brewer.
