Commercial Description: For those of us who live in the United States, the style known as Alt remains something of an enigma. Few examples can be found among imported and craft brewed fare. Alt ales are characterized by "top-fermented lager beers". They are fermented using ale, or top fermenting yeast. But following fermentation, they undergo a period of aging, or lagering, at cool temperatures. The resulting beer has a flavor profile with characteristics of both a lager and ale.
Our version of a Dusseldorf Altbier offers a refreshing bitterness and bready, dry malt flavor The German malt we used gives this beer a dark amber color and creamy white head. The bitterness comes from German Tettnang hops that have a pleasant spicy aroma and flavor. Overall this is a very drinkable beer to ease you from a cold winter to a warm spring.
