MoritzF (3883), Ruhrpott, Germany Feb 25, 2007 (bottle, with thanks to the Roman Koelschtrinker !) Clear, mahogany colour with a medium-sized greige head. Sweet toast-malty aroma with toffee and a subtle fruit-character and shy herbal hops. Bitter, slightly sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Dark malty, slightly roasted taste with caramel, toffee and a restrained fruitiness; roast- and hop-bitter dry finish with herbal hops and a delicate fruity-malty aftertaste. Pleasant, not too sweet Alt. jbrus (4178), Delft, Netherlands Jan 20, 2006 Bottled. Aroma is herbal cookie. Brown/copper color, beige head, good lace, pours very thick. Sweet, malty, light herbal, caramel, light bitter, thick for a alt, smooth. Not exceptional but certainly nice to drink. TimE (1031), Tokyo, Japan Dec 23, 2005 Damn, Japan gets random beer in. Deep copper color. Minerally fruity nose. Malty slightly fruity mouth and a dry fruity finish. A combination of age and travel got to this beer. I agree with the commnents below about more hop character would have helped this beer.
dortmunder (961), Herdecke, Germany Jun 11, 2005 Bottled. Clear dark copper/brown colour. Big, frothy head with little bubbles on top. Typical cookie malt aroma. Caramelly, malty and sweet taste. Not very hoppy, to say the least. Smooth mouthfeel and quite a full body, when compared to most altbier brewed outside the 4 Düsseldorf brewpubs. As I´m a fan of sweet beer, I also liked this alt. But I guess it´s not the kind of alt for people, who like hoppy and edgy alts like Uerige. A little more hops would have made this really good, though.
