11.2 oz bottle into a footed pilsner glass. A: Pours a dark chestnut color. The head is a creamy-looking one finger offwhite shade. It fades away at a decent rate, but leaves a miniscule ring of lacing on the glass. S: There’s a pleasant nuttiness at first, with even more pleasant grassy hops hidden beneath that. Hints of coffee abound; the aroma has a real hazelnut vibe I enjoy. The aroma could be a bit bolder, otherwise I really like it. T: At first, the hazelnut qualities from the aroma trickle down to the flavors. After that, it transitions to more raisin-y tone near the back end, before a touch of hops cleanse the finish some. It’s too sweet, I think - some more grassy hops on the back end could have really made this one special. M: This is a bit more lumbering than one would expect from a 4.5% dark lager; this has both a positive and negative effect. On the plus side, it helps give it a richer feel, but at the same token, it doesn’t have the drinkability it should feature. Carbonation is soft, which is a good match for the treacly texture. O: Being a Czech dark lager, I expected more Saaz hops. It’s certainly well made, but like I said, it’s just too sweet at the end of the day. Still pretty good.

Bottled 500ml. -from some bar in Brežice. Dark amber/brownish coloured, small off-white head, burnt caramel in the nose. Sweet malty, caramel, milk chocolate and notes of dried fruits with bitterish sweet finish. Overall too sweet, nothing special here.

0.5l bottle, that hostel in Brežice near the fest, thanks Ogi! Poured a brown/amber dark body with a small off white head. Pungent, sweet aroma, raisins, malt, cardboard, creamy, lactic. Typical. Mild taste, huge raisins, dry, vaguely bitter, finishes slightly dry & bitter. Slightly messy stuff but kinda interesting and not really that bad. Probably the same as 1795, but seemingly better now than when I had that.

A malty delicious czech lager with a fair amount of sweetness. A needed respite from a hop saturated market.

0,5 bottle. Dark brown colour, medium head. Some light hop and strong caramel/coffee aroma. Liquid is hazy. Very heavy sweet, light bitter taste. Medium body with fizzy carbonation. Abrupt finish. May be average dunkel, if won’t be such sweet.

Sample at Winking Lizard. The beer is a dark brown color with a medium foamy beige head that diminishes steadily. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of roast malt and caramel. Light-bodied with flavors of grainy malt, caramel and a bit of coffee. The finish is roasty with a short malty aftertaste. Barely average overall.

Aroma: Sweet malty aromas with hints of yeast. Appearance: Dark mahogany with tan head. Taste: Heavy sweetness throughout. Palate: Slick, sticky texture, medium body, soft carbonation, long sweet finish. Overall: A bit too sweet for me, but not sickeningly so. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
