11.2 oz bottle into a footed pilsner glass. A: Pours a dark chestnut color. The head is a creamy-looking one finger offwhite shade. It fades away at a decent rate, but leaves a miniscule ring of lacing on the glass. S: There’s a pleasant nuttiness at first, with even more pleasant grassy hops hidden beneath that. Hints of coffee abound; the aroma has a real hazelnut vibe I enjoy. The aroma could be a bit bolder, otherwise I really like it. T: At first, the hazelnut qualities from the aroma trickle down to the flavors. After that, it transitions to more raisin-y tone near the back end, before a touch of hops cleanse the finish some. It’s too sweet, I think - some more grassy hops on the back end could have really made this one special. M: This is a bit more lumbering than one would expect from a 4.5% dark lager; this has both a positive and negative effect. On the plus side, it helps give it a richer feel, but at the same token, it doesn’t have the drinkability it should feature. Carbonation is soft, which is a good match for the treacly texture. O: Being a Czech dark lager, I expected more Saaz hops. It’s certainly well made, but like I said, it’s just too sweet at the end of the day. Still pretty good.

From green bottle poured into glass. Deep amber with small head. It has a very sweet taste similar to unfermented dark beer wort. Taste is of caramel and hint of chocolate. It has a syrupy impression yet it is thin and rather bland. It needs some character.

Aroma a cafe intenso, tonos caramelo. Color cafe oscuro. Sabor a cafe caramelizado, dulce al final y muy persistente en boca. Recomendable.

Not terrible but not noteworthy--rather hoppy aroma, palate somewhat oily and thin, taste of malt and metal, finish quick and vanishing. Overall, except for the malt level I’d have pegged it for a lager if tested blind!

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Dark brown color with light brown head. Aroma has toasted malt and dark sugar. Taste is roasty but quite balanced. Body is on the light side. Easy drinking but kind a bit too simple.

Draft at Tyber Bierhaus. Brownish color with a reddish. Pretty good lacing. Sweet and heavy malty aroma and flavor. Almost molasses like. Gets a little cloying. Finishes sticky. Not great, but not bad either.

Mahogany appearance with an average size, off white head and a fair amount of lacing. Toasted malts fade to cereal grains in the aroma. Nutty, earthy, caramel malt flavor. Sweet aftertaste. Light-to-medium bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel leading to a short lived finish.

Pours a half finger of head on a brown body. The aroma is an interesting mixture of grain and caramel. The taste is caramel sweetness, one sided. The texture is chewy. It’s solidly average.
