bottle thanks to OKbeerFan. thanks to Mrs. Homer for making me open it. poured into duvel glass. nose of strong chocolate and coffee with some vegetal notes. pitch black in color with a medium brown head. Taste is initially all chocolate with some coffee mid palate. the heat from the peppers seems to come out in the finish and mostly in the throat. the peppers seem to be a bit vegetal and taste ’green’. heat is just about right, doesn’t mask or over power the other additives to the beer, but the base stout seems to be a bit lacking. overall, very good, but a lot going on in the beer. the coffe and heat seem to clash a bit, but otherwise a pretty solid beer.

Bottle; Pour is dark brown, with a fine bubbled, one finger dark khaki head into this snifter. The pour retains fairly well, with some sticky lacing present here. The nose is dark chocolate and chocolate cake initial; roasty coffee notes moving forward, with caramel and dark fruits presenting themselves to a hint of booze and I suppose there’s a chili note here. It’s feint. I wouldn’t have commented on it without it in the description. The flavor profile is robust initial; cacao, vanilla, roast rounds it out nicely. There’s mild bitter moving to cake, caramel, and again, a hint of chili. The moral of the story is that the 14% is hidden well here. I’m not exactly impressed with the brew as it is - Pirate Bomb was another story.

Tap at Meddlesome Moth, Dallas - deep black, faint dark tan lace - fairly creamy texture - body is a little thin for the strength, but the alcohol is well-hidden - vanilla bean is the most prominent flavor and aroma, practically to the point of being overpowering - it certainly washes out a lot of the other flavors - the chili peppers are not present at all, but there is a little heat in the back of the throat - slick, oily texture - some chocolate and roast - a touch of vinous character - it’s good, but given the reputation, I was expected to be blown away.

Looks pretty. Nice black color nice head. The nose is bog on coffee and hot pebers. Not much sweetness on the nose. The palate is creamy and the taste is chocolaty, big on coffee and rather dry. As I recall a whole lot like Plead the 5th.. Would like to try Pirate Bomb!

Bottle. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, roasted barley, vanilla, and booze. Appearance is black with with a khaki colored head. Very good lacing. Taste is chocolate, brownies, vanilla, coffee, malty bitterness, and then some heat at the end. Full body with moderately low carbonation. Overall a rich, complex, creative, and well balanced imperial stout. Very delicious.

A - Pours motor oil with no head to speak of. S - Cocoa and alcohol. T - Coffee rinds, dark chocolate, lovely spice. Not picking up on the vanilla. M - Medium/full bodied. Slick texture. Tingling carbonation. Lingering spice numb. O - Rich, spicy, wonderful.

04.03.2014, 0,35l bottle @ home:
Big brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is rich and slightly sweet, espresso, cocoa, dark sugar, vanilla, dark malts, licorice, chili. Taste is slightly dry and burnt, espresso, dark malts, vanilla, cocoa, nice warming chili, grass, licorice, burnt caramel, dark sugar. Longlasting mild bitterness, slightly thick syrupy mouthfeel. Very nice. It’s just incredible how they have camouflaged 14% ABV to being around 6-7%.
