Inky black pour with a spotty brown film; initial aroma of peanut brittle, powdered semi-sweet chocolate, bitter coffee grounds. Green hot pepper comes bursting out with some oxygen; it seems to offer the dessert like renderings, or its vegetal, vaguely acrid and green quality, but not both. It shifts its shape, but it isn’t strikingly complex.

There is plenty of alkaline soil-like coffee ground flavor here, the tinny mineral qualities of which are never appealing to me. Bittersweet, rich chocolate cake, pistachio, vanilla, and other sweet flavors work to balance this, but the predominant harsh flavor of coffee grounds is counterintuitive to showcasing malt complexity. The charmingly strange peanut brittle note remains prevalent throughout. A mite of juicy melon flavor, blending with alcohol, is apparent with warmth.

The body is pleasingly balanced. Medium high carbonation; lightly syrupy and a bit soft around the edges. The heated, greenish moment at the finish is an interesting touch for the fact that it isn’t so much a flavor as a sensation. There is a certain delicateness to this, given how much of its character is made up of flavorings.

aroma: don’t know what type of chiles are used, but smells of fresh cut jalapeno and earthy roasted coffee. appearance: pours a motor oil body; foamy mocha head with decent retention. taste: this is a delicious beer: the pepper flavor is subdued but its roasty/earthy notes bolster and complement the coffee--a masterful coordination of two very different ingredients. so, earthy, roasty coffee/pepper flavor; sweet vanilla rounding it out with a slight bitter chocolate finish. delicious. palate: foamy/creamy and medium body; flat carb.

This is an amazing beer, it is everything that they describe it to be with the coffee being the main component, followed by some vanilla sweetness and the pepper earthyness and heat mix in well with the chocolate. The pepper taste grows a bit more and more with every sip

Thanks to joedevivre. Hidden booze gem. Dark silky pour. Vanilla, chocolate, coffee, chilies in nose. We’ll balanced and complex taste. Coffee blossoms as it warms. Spiciness we’ll integrated and subtle. Not too thick and Almost no detection of giant booze presence. Impressive to say the least.

355 ML bottle 13% version Black pour, not much viscosity to this. Slightly thin looking in the glass. Dark brown head that falls to a thick brown collar. Strips of lacing. Massive green coffee nose. Coffee, tar, ash, char, green pepper and subtle hints of vanilla. Does soften as it gets more air. Surprisingly thin taste. Mostly supported on coffee and vanilla. Not nearly as thick as thought this would be. Chiles arrive and give heat in the palate. Some char, oak, ash, coffee and green pepper again. Just stunned on how thin this is for 13%. Drinks closer to an 8% stout really. Short lived ancho chile finish with some coffee. Needs to be bigger and bolder in the body but drinkable for 13%

#3500. 330 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBSG III. Thanks to beuk87 & omgrich. Orange wax. Black with little mocha head. Nose is huge charcoal, roasted & burned malts, grounds, sooth, cacao, cigarette & some okay-ish chilli. Taste is alcoholic, grounds, very bitter, lots of ashes, burned malt, light chilli in the back, charcoal, very bitter, very boozy, liquorish, burned coffee beans. Bit thin, ashes, grounds body. I do not get the appeal, this is an unbalanced mess with pointless excess that seems to only incite fake appraisal as if you passed some sort of test.

Sampled under less than ideal circumstances Pours like motor oil used too long, having lost a bit of its viscosity. Chocolate, burnt rubber, sweet molasses, bit of solvent or benzene, canned vegetables. Quite burnt-bitter, molasses in the finish. Roast meat crust, left too long in the oven. Some serious rocket fuel features. Very slick and oily, full bodied, alcoholburn. Circumstances kept in mind, certainly not a subtle one. Txs to Mathieu!

Sampled @ RBBSG III. Opaque pitch black color, average sized brown head. Aroma is malts, a hint of paint, hugely vanilla and sweet. Taste malts, dark malts, lightly bitter, roasty, alcohol. Fizzy carbonation, medium body. Don’t like it, too much carbonation, unbalanced vanilla flavors, just not good and unbalanced.
