i definitely liked Pirate Bomb better. this one is a little more one dimensional, and almost a little metallic. still good though.

12 ounce bottle (orange wax, batch 5 at 13% ABV) poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours a motor oily consisterncy with a jet black body and a finger of tan head. Aromas of big roasty coffee up front, dark chocolate, vanilla, some chili peppers, very subtle dark fruit. Tasting notes of bitter and roasty coffee, dark chocolate, fudge, vanilla, light smokiness possibly from the peppers. Full body with a slightly warm peppery finish. Medium carbonation, oily and slightly creamy mouthfeel. Pretty smooth for 13% ABV which creeps up towards the end, hardly any booze detected.

Deeply aromatic, distinct notes of chili pepper, cacao nibs, some vanilla but I’m struggling to get a great deal of coffee in the nose. Amazingly viscous, thick, just absolutely coats the glass. Moderate head with mild retention, actually surprising head and retention for a stout of this size. Flavor is simply outstanding, super complex. The coffee is very apparent, as is the cacao nibs, while the heat is subtle in the finish. Touch of roasted malt, bordering on burnt. The mouthfeel is silky smooth and in no way is the alcohol noticeable. There’s an element of carbonation. Vanilla does show up a touch in the finish.

Five-ounce pour at Třrst. Pours an inky black with almost no head. Aroma is really nice: bitter chocolate, port, fruity coffee, fresh fruity guajillo chile. Taste is tremendously well-integrated bitter chocolate, coffee, hop bitterness, mild chile heat, chocolate-covered cherries. Long, silky finish. Alcohol is well-masked. Nice. A top non-BA imperial stout.

Bottle courtesy of the Tampa Crew. Pours a deep obsidian with a tan head. Nose is roast, espresso, dark chocolate, earth, some mild vanilla, and if I really look, some earthy peppers. Flavor is similar with roast, espresso, chocolate, dark chocolate, earth and light vanilla and the peppers are even harder to find. Medium in body and very nice and an enjoyable beer to ponder.

Black as night in the glass, with a thick mocha head. Aromas of vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. Pretty explosive tastewise. Huuge flavours coming out, and the chili shines through by giving it some subtle spicy notes. Taste is heavy on the sweet side, and medium in bitterness. All in all pretty damn good!

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light peppers notes with some very nice and rich black chocolate notes is just about perfect. Taste is a complex mix of rich black chocolates with some light pepper that are not overwhelming with some vanilla notes. Body is full with super nice creamy notes with medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Loads of complexity with great flavors and also some good complexity. World class stout for sure.

Thanks to EricTesuink for popping this. 12oz bottle. Big coffee flavors and roasty malt. Spice on the back of the palate to add some complexity and a bit of a bite. Big bold roasted coffee aromas. Smooth roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate flavors as well. All coming together really nicely.

Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown to black color with a thin brown head. Aroma is a potent chocolate, coffee, burnt malts. Not really picking up on the chili peppers though. Flavor is dark roasted malts, some chocolate, light vanilla. Heavier body with a lingering cacao bitterness. Fantastic beer!

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle with orange wax on the cap, compliments of BMart poured into a snifter. Pours coal black with medium light brown head. Aroma is rich decadent coffee, thick body, medium carbonation, and moderate thin small bubble lacing. Taste is big coffee, rich chocolate, some vanilla, and hints of chili peppers. Alcohol is well covered and one of my favorite imperial coffee stouts.
