Pitch black, with an inch of cinnamon-colored foam, dense and marshmallowy. Cocoa powder in the nose, chalky milk chocolate, light roast coffee, vanilla bean. A slight vegetal aroma I’m gonna attribute to the chiles. Coffee is most prominent in the flavor, though here it seems overly roasted, balanced by smooth vanilla and finished by bittersweet dark chocolate and a very subtle pepper heat. Body is a bit light to support the style and all the flavors -- it’s medium-light and full of prickly carbonation. I can’t attest to the freshness of this bottle, but both the chocolate and coffee in here seem a little stale. Nice blend, nonetheless.

355ml bottle at home (14% Abv). Black color with nice brown head. roasted malty aroma, cocoa, chocolate, coffee, spicy, light pepper, alcohol. Taste is light sweet and bitter, coffee, chocolate and cocoa again, spicy pepper, wood, alcohol, light vanilla. Medium to full almost silky body with soft carbonation and bitter chocolate and coffee spicy light alcoholic long aftertaste. More intense the different flavors from bottle, more balanced on tap.

Poured from bottle into tulip. Pours like motor oil and just as black. Little head that quickly dissipates. Flavor is quite good. The chocolate is upfront while the chilis have a soft long burn in the background. Right amount of sweetness too. The vanilla is there, but lost amidst the other flavors. Most impressively, this thing is crazy smooth for 13%. Like, I don't even understand it. The alcohol just isn't there. Really good stuff.

Bottle from CBX. Black pour with a creamy tan head. Initial aroma of chili peppers and vanilla beans, followed by fudge brownies, Herseys milk chocolate chocolate and light touches of coffee. Flavor is fairly similar with a medium heavy bodied. It’s not bad, just such a tired adjunct style that I’m sick of.

on draft for black out Friday at the nachbar. poured deep dark brown to black color with mocha head that left nice lacing on the glass. the first aroma was of chocolate and mild coffee. the flavor was to savor for quite awhile. plenty of chocolate, vanilla and never really felt the pepper until the very end. blended so nicely and delicious. heavy body with plenty of roasted malts.

Poured from a growler. The consistency is thick. Color is an opaque blackish-brown color. Aroma is sweet with roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor is sweet like molasses, with tons of coffee, chocolate, and creaminess from the vanilla. On the back end you get slight heat from the chillies and alcohol. Full body with medium carbonation. Absolutely tastes beer.

Arrière-goût légèrement poivré, long et délicatement vanillé. Une bombe très facile à boire. Je comprends l’engouement des gens envers cet impérial stout. Impressionnant.

8 ounce pour - $6.50 at Argosy in Atlanta, Georgia.

Appearance: Dark brown, near black body with a frothed up, dark beige-hued head.

Smell: Blackened brackish roasted maltiness, dark chocolate powder. Dark fruits. The vegetal tones from the chiles is noted, as is the solvent alcohol quality.

Taste: Sugar infused chocolate, with harsh, ashen coffee, black molasses, and a little soft touch of vanilla. Dark fruitiness. A ’pop’ of accumulating chile pepper heat. Hard roastiness on the chile-touched, hot finish with the spiciness (and alcohol) lingering into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Near full body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: The bomb isn’t a dud, but, frankly, I was surprised at its overwhelming reception online. Really, I was thankful it was only eight ounces. Though, that’s just one beer monkey’s opinion, which is in the minority.

Pours deep brown reddish hue headless, lightly resinous surface, not much exuded co2. Coffee deep caramel red chile meat juicy and fruity, lightly piquant, milk chocolate, comparison to abraxas. Two year old bottle very tight. Light tannic astringency here. So well done. Lightly sweet.
