4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
The sweetness is killing the amazingness of this one for me. It is pretty frikkin sweet and plenty thick. Carbonation is low, but in expected realm. Some tasty coffee flavors float through the great wall of malt. Cacao nibs - sure. Vanilla beans? There is way to much going on for such nuances. The peppers kick a little heat, maybe, there should be a bit of burn for a 14% and there really isnít, so credit that as you will. A fine beverage, but honestly, especially for the cost, I would much rather have a four pack of <10% imperial stouts, one with each different special ingredient. Always fun to chip off wax. Bonus - sparkly wax!

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This was a true delight from Bytemises. Aroma is strong green pepper, coffee, and slight vanilla. Pours black with a nice patchy film. Taste is just perfection. Roast coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla towards the end and a big red chili pepper finish. Not too spicy like Mexican Cake but a good slow build. Mouthfeel is dark and roasty which is amazing givin its ABV. This is a top notch beer.

12oz. bottle supplied by OKBeerFan. Many thanks! To snifter, it pours a syrupy jet black with a trim off-beige sudsy head half a fingernail in length. The aroma is what first got me. Itís akin to smelling a peanut butter Snickers bars melting in a rotisserie oven. Also detecting cinnamon, roasted pumpkin, caramel, and American hops. This tastes like an incredible live version of Animal Collectiveís "Brother Sport". Undertastes of honey and herbal bitterness. Coffee very much distinction; the chili peppers, unfortunately were strangely weak and lackluster in this category, but there was a small tinge of chili heat at the back of the throat after the first initial gulps. After that, the pepperiness melts away and itís left with mostly caramelized sweetness, and purťed blackberries. The coffee was intense and thusly remembered more so than the supplementary flavors. But thereís a lot going on in this brew: itís not messy, but I would say that itís almost fringing on bewilderment. Letís be honest: this is a great beer, but I felt as if perhaps the brewers were overcomplicating things by adding too much stuff. As I said, this imperial stout is very similar to "Brother Sport" by Animal Collective: thereís so much going on itís hard to stay focused on individual segments of the song, as it changes four times.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Churchkey. Rich, viscous, jet black pour with a lovely brown head. Nose is loaded with big espresso bite, high percentage dark chocolate, touches of milk and vanilla sweetness, and heavy roast. Flavor brings much of the same, with sweetness apparently up front, then moving to the beautiful chalky dry char and attenuated roast, then hints of chili heat on the finish. Smooth, almost thin for 14%; sort of stunned by how light it was on the palate. Still, gorgeous for the style, but honestly I thought Perennialís BA Abraxas was more insane.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Churchkey. Poured a pitch black color, motor oil with a dark brown, medium sized head. Aroma was notes of tar, burnt black color, with notes of coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Flavor was smooth burnt coffee, chocolate. Notes of licorice. Alcohol is really hidden for 14%, but itís there - bold and a bit beautiful. Woah.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draft in Washington, DC - where else? Admits no light. Brown head. Aroma of licorice, burnt rubber, espresso pot thatís been left on the burner for three days. Taste is burnt bitter espresso, burnt smouldering brownies, anise. Definitely a big beer, my throat burns now, and the finish lasts half an hour. Reminds me of a lite version of Mikkeller Black.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Murky brown pour with light toffee colored head. Big aroma of coffee, roast, and bitter cocoa. Flavors are more of the same, the chocolatey bitterness is fairly prominent with plenty of coffee and vanilla to back it up. Really something special.
