4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Opaque black color with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark chocolate, charred wood, vanilla, chili peppers, and alcohol. Taste of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, some chili and light vanilla, with lighter alcohol in the finish.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours thick dark brownish black unclear with a darker beige head. The aroma brings sweet cake vanilla and coconut just getting so much better with a bit of breathing. The flavor brings all the flavors described subtley but blended so well. The flavor brings vanilla, sweet bready notes, light chiles at the end. The vanilla shines so nicely on the palate.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
bottled, dark brown with frothy tan head, aroma of burnt roast, flavor of dark fruit, leather, cocoa bean, jalapeno, too much heat overall or would have liked this better

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep dark black with a thick moist brown cap floating on top. Aroma has a ton of everything in it, spicy, earth, deep coffee, and so much more. Canít smell any vanilla the pepper crushes all in the nose. Taste is basically the same but a but load more coffee. The spicy builds but no heat ever shows. Mmmmmmmmmmmm campfire smoke. Dam this is gosh darn bitter. And there is no way this is 13% no alcohol heat at all. I like this a lot maybe. Do I? 3.8 seems high.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft. Pours black with a beige head. Hard roasted malts, mild smokey notes, some pepper heat, dark chocolate, light sweetness, and faint spices. Not bad, but I had this next to Perennial Abraxas and Abraxas was just way way better.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is an intense stout. 12oz draft poured into snifter. Aromas of earth from the pepper, red pepper, coffee, oak. Palate of dry coffee, oily mouthfeel. This beer is insanely complex.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle. Yep, this one is impressive. Poured jet black with a frothy mocha colored head. Left some good lace. Aroma is huge notes of rich dark cocoa and fresh ground coffee. May be a touch of green pepper in there. Flavors were in line with tons of coffee and chocolate. Roasty malts and a hint of vanilla round it out. Bittersweet espresso like finish lingers. Nice viscous mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Silky smooth. Easily one of the best beers I had last year. Just now getting around to rating it.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Beer Kitchen No. 1 in Kansas City, served in a snifter.
A: Arrived as a dark black brew capped with a relatively thin dark brown head. Left decent lacing on the glass.
S: Unfortunately, I was at a restaurant, which messes with my sense of smell. What I was able to detect was a serious dose of coffee, with spicy hot pepper notes.
T: Oddly, exactly as the aroma I was able to detect, more or less. Coffee strikes right up front and does not relent, a type that tastes like pure black, undiluted, super dark roast - like a shade darker than French roasts. Hot pepper spiciness rides alongside the coffee, eventually taking over near the finish to transform the flavor experience from coffee bitter to spicy heat. There are some vague hints of dark chocolate that manifest here and there, and the base malt taste is that of a charred-black roasted bill, which simply adds to the coffee bitter.
M: Heavy and thick, this is definitely an imperial stout.
O: Wildly unbalanced, at least to my tastes, as almost all I got was the double-hit of dark coffee and chiles. I can see where the infatuation with beers that feature one or two huge flavors to blow your face off gets this beer its high marks, but itís probably not a repeater for me.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Stupendous! Nice chocolate and coffee flavor, and itís literally the only time Iíve ever seen a spicy beer where the spice compliments the whole concoction in a satisfying way! The slice blends with the rest of the flavors to add a little twang to the end. It really puts it into perspective what people mean when they say "spicy" hops... Itís a lot like this.
