4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2 years old bottle from Systembolaget. Black coloured with a small mocha head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, coffee, chilis and vanilla. Taste reflects the aroma, but a little sweeter. Medium to full-bodied. Medium bitterness. And low carbonation.

Full. Complex. Delicious. A new favorite. I could smell the pepper. A lot of rich flavor. Sits loose in the mouth, but feels awesome.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Coffee black pour with a thin head. Smells like itís got all the imperial stout fixins. Flavor is big time on the coffee and cocoa, with some slight pepper burn there. Alcohol is covered very well, but it definitely is a warmer. Solid offering Iíd like to give another go.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled April 2015
A steady pour, that has a noticeable viscosity, into my glass produces a one finger thick, nicely browned head. The beer is a black color that is opaque when held up to the light. The aroma smells of chile peppers, and this is accentuated by the coffee and the chile notes. If you really start to dig, there is a big chocolate aroma hidden behind the dominant coffee character, as well as a mellowing, vanilla note. Acrid roast, burnt green peppers, and big chile spice notes definitely overwhelm the nose at times. As the beer warms up the chocolate / vanilla aromatics become a bit more noticeable, and this helps with the integration and balance of the aroma.
Thick and rich, though not quite as much as the visual viscosity might have suggested. The beer finishes with a bitter, though not overwhelming, acrid, roast coffee character. Up front this balances a dark malt sweetness that is amplified by a big vanilla note, that is then dried out by some spicy, chile heat towards the finish that lightly clings to the palate after each sip. The vanilla also accentuates rich chocolate flavors here, as well as sweet, toasted / roasted mocha notes. Lots of roasted nutty notes add to the complexity and help to keep the flavor much smoother than the aroma is.
I could do without the coffee character here, as with many a coffee beer, it is quite a bit overdone; and easy to overdo, and coffee really doesnít age well at all. Still, this is a tasty, interesting Imperial Stout. If this didnít have so much coffee character I would be quite curious to get a couple bottles of this to see how it ages over time.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
355mL bottle from Camperdown Cellars, Sydney
A small fortune this thing cost - did the double take when I saw it -didnít realise it was available down here, so couldnít resist.
Pitch black, espresso head coats the glass it its wake.
Intense aroma - coffee, i mean espresso coffee, i means GOOD espresso coffee, with rich undertones of rich dark chocolate, faint smoke and vanilla.
Body is thick, rich, warming, didnít chill this bad boy much but has a lovely mouthcoating creaminess to it.
That GOOD rich espresso comes back in droves on the body - like an espresso reduction - luscious and seductive, alluring and all empowering. Chillis kick in a touch towards the finish, some extra warmth, spice, zing, touch of cocoa & vanilla there too but itís like a perfect amalgamation of flavour really - works as one.
Sensational really - canít say much more

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Lightly creamy feeling. The pepper kind of flattens the sweetness but it doesnít "bite"...itís a belly warmer after effect. Though the high ABV isnít reflected it taste...it is a heavy hitter. Half way through the bottle and Iím slowing.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Black with a thin light brown head and some lacing. Chocolate milk, vanilla bean, light roast coffee, malty and faint chile. Moderate chocolate milk sweetness with a medium earthy coffee bitterness. Heavier body with a creamy feel. Very tasty and captured all of flavor additions nicely.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Roasted chocolate and pepper up front on the nose. Pours deep dark brown with an off tan head. Not too heavy. A subtle pepperiness, just enough to compliment the cocoa and coffee flavors. 13% and not boozy at all. Deelish.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black color with mocha head. Aroma pops with vanilla and a vegetal pepper and celery note. Taste starts sweet and chocolatey and then the spicy chili kicks in. You also get the vanilla sweetness. Really well integrated flavors. Body is heavy with smooth carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. You get a burn but itís mostly from the chili. Really nice overall. Well balanced spiced imperial stout.
