Smell of chocolate, sweet coffee flavor with a delightful burn of chili peppers. Alcohol well hidden, amazing in that it claims a 14% abv. Rich delicious beer.

Orange wax bottle courtesy of the kingly tderoeck (Thanks again!). The pour shows an oil slick black with a very sparse but dark coffee foam.
The nose shows fresh chocolate and vanilla with pronounced notes of espresso.
The palate immediately shows the chili spiciness but quickly dissipates and only adds a dash of heat. Highly carbonated and light bodied. The flavors shows abundant dark chocolate with coffee beans and a light vanilla whisper to freshen the dark flavors. The finish once again shows the chili spiciness on return but only to tickle the tongue so as to invite the drinker for more. In short, superb.

12-oz. Thanks so much, A! Pours jet black with a dense and creamy dark tan head that sticks around forever. Big heavy sweet roasty coffee and dark chocolate nose, Sticky thick heavy body with soft carb. Not as much coffee on the mid palate as on the nose--dark chocolate and roast and some black licorice showing. Long earthy sweet roasty finish.

small 12 oz bottle, I’d prefer this in a bomber, or a growler, or a 3 liter magnum, or a 5 gal bucket, or a swimming pool. Nose was a bit unimpressive with a bouquet of dusty cacao and some faint chili peppers. Taste was very chocolaty with chilies very subtly blended for a exquisite drinking experience. This shit is the Bomb.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle and served in snifter: Nearly opaque with an initial big frothy beige head that fades quickly but left some spotty lace. Displays big chocolate and vanilla tones with a fair amount of coffee, roast and char too. The pepper finally kicks in toward the finish but is hardly abusive, they are a tad "green" IMO which I dislike. The mouth feel is super lush and oily, hardy and warming but not over the top. This is a nice brew but I still wished they roasted the peppers and removed that veggie like character. Do that and this would world class IMO... give me a Prairie Noir over this.

On draft. Nose powdered chocolate and vanilla. Taste strong molasses and medium roast coffee. Chili peppers not all that present but adds some depth to back of palette. Deep layers of semi sweet chocolate. Not boozy at all which is impressive. Very well constructed beverage.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2015 On tap at barley bros winnipeg. I was pumped to see this on tap in my town!!! Sharp cocoa aroma. Taste is dry cocoa sweet chocolate. Didn’t get a lot of chilli pepper in this, which was a good thing. If it added anything it was subtle. Smooth amazing almost nitro palate. Fantastic beer. By far the best ever available in Winnipeg.

Bottled. Pours black with no head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and an absolutely noticeable spicy pepper note. Bit of vanilla as well. Flavor is dark cocoa, coffee, vanilla and a spicy pepper finish, but only just a bit. Very pleasant. Not too boozy for 13%. Very drinkable.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz bottle @ The Porter Beer Bar, served in a tulip. Pours thick deep inky black with very thin lacy mocha head. Aroma is huge dry milk chocolate malt, sweet toffee, and a hint of fresh espresso. Taste is rich, heavy roasty dark chocolate; with a bit of espresso and chili heat on the back. Vanilla sweetness lingers on the finish. Huge, amazing beer. Clearly big and rich, though it drinks easier than the massive 14% abv listed.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle. Appearance: black color, opaque, film rust red head, oily light lacing. Aroma: chili, chocolate syrup, roast. Palate: full body, soft carbonation, oily. Taste: sweet chocolate with roast coming through and chili sweetness, light metallic finish from chili. Overall, super smooth, very nice, did not live up to the hype for me personally.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the Craft Beer Cellar in a snifter glass. It poured an opaque black colour with thin and weak beige head, poor appearance overall but some nice lace. Low aromas but pleasant, toasted grain, subtle cinnamon and chili spice. Much fuller flavour than aroma. True to style oatmeal stout: bready, toasty, roasty, full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel, all with a warmer than usual alcoholic presence. Plus some mild coffee and vanilla flavours, stronger cacao, cinnamon, and chili spice. Good but not as great as I’d hoped.
