Smell of chocolate, sweet coffee flavor with a delightful burn of chili peppers. Alcohol well hidden, amazing in that it claims a 14% abv. Rich delicious beer.

Beer No. 200. Thank you very much for this one, Jason! Pours a viscous, complete black color, with a small, soon diminishing brown head. Intoxicating aromas of fresh crushed coffee beans, melted dark-chocolate, tobacco, hints of gentle vanilla, also scorched caramel and rock sugar accompanied by roasted malts. Has a very creamy, chocolate defined beginning, with earthy, calming malts, which maintain the balance of this brew, as sweet molasse, caramel and pungent tobacco come up, to form a very convincing, smooth start. Then, soon, uncompromising, burned coffee bean notes get detectable, which counter the established, rich, earthy sweetness by adding an almost dry bitterness to the beer, while hot chili peppers lend a hot, spicy background depth. This spicy sting stays on the back of the palate till the very end, altough the beer finishes with great chocolate qualities, blended with bitter coffee tones. Complex, slick and smooth in the mouth, a full-bodied, fantastic beer.

Bottle from Jay. Pours dark brown/black with mocha brown foam. Smells strongly of alcohol, coffee and cedar. Tastes earthy of coffee, cinnamon, cocoa, peanuts and alcohol.

Bottle to glass. Pours a dark inky black with a thin brown head. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, a bit of licorice and hints of vanilla. Smells great. Taste is pretty impressive, smooth coffee and dark chocolate up front transitioning to a somewhat fruity sweetness. Berries. Finishes smooth, with a faint alcohol burn and a moderate bitterness and a bit of peppery heat. Does not taste like a 12%+ beer. It’s dangerous! Palate is silky smooth, medium carbonation. Lives up to the hype pretty well.

Bottle. Pours gloopy black with no head. Interesting/sweet smells. Some dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, maybe a little vanilla. Taste is thick, viscous, and lingers quite a while. Lots of dark roast coffee with some cocoa/vanilla in the background. The chili peppers add a really nice numbing/warming at the finish. Solid.

Bottle. Thanks to mike12da. My 2,000th rating. Slightly harsh coffee nose, with roast chiles, vanilla, and soild earthy undertones. Black, with a dark tan head. Sweet, strong dark roast coffee. mild chiles, and wonderful chocolate. Medium body and very smooth. All these ingredients complement each other, each perfectly matching and creating a complex palate. The chile notes are just right, tasty and not overwhelming. Coffee seems a bit scorched, but not badly. Very very good.

Bottled, for rating no. 6200. Nose is vanilla, chili, coffee, bourbon-like. Black with pretty lace. Same flavors, pepper burn, lots of vanilla, some coffee. Light, not cloying, great balance. Lovely. Hides the booze well. Long chili burn is less than perfect, but still works well.

Salmoniform (540) - Sweet Home, Oregon, USA - AUG 3, 2014
Poured from bottle to glass. Dark opaque hue with brown head. Aroma is coffee forward, chocolate, cola, vanilla, molasses. Mouthfeel is nice with fuller body and good carbonation. Taste is sweet throughout with a well balanced astringent bitterness in the following and a slight spiciness mixed in with the ethanol in the finish. Overall this is a pretty good beer.

Bottle shared by Scott. Pours dark brown/black color with brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, vanilla. Burnt malt and dark chocolate flavors with medium roast coffee, vanilla and some heat from the chilis. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Good stuff.

Pours dark brown with a large dark tan head. The aroma has lots of coffee & peppers of the bat. The cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla and extra coffee come into the mix. It has a very full rich body with a mild amount of carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of coffee and roasted malt. In the back is a bit of pepper and some dark chocolate. The finish shows more pepper, but the coffee and roast stay as the most prominent aspect by far. This is good, but to heavily coffee for my tastes. Hoping the bottle I’m sitting on mellows on the coffee.

Tap: thick brownish black with a small light brown ring head. Aroma of bourbon, brown sugar, mellow coffee notes, and some spicy sweetness. Thick thick body. Sweet choco flavors with a roasted malt finish and a little cola. Bitter sweet chocolate aftertaste. Impressively thick and tasty. You can definitely feel the alcohol but it’s harder to taste - so well done on that front.
