3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Wow, it turns out I had a nearly identical experience with this one to GT2, down to exactly matching scores...nose has a pleasant earthy coffee character but also a bit of a bell pepper note. Taste is this but even moreso, really really earthy, tastes like the coffee flavor has been aging for a while and left behind a sort of unpleasant character, there are nice things here but also a difficult beer to get through even a 4oz pour of. I wouldn’t say this is a great stout, but it might just be a case of bottle variance rather than an inherently flawed beer. Will have to try again.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft. Black pour, with a biege head. Lots of chocolate, vanilla bean, bitter roasted malt, earthy, coffee, and mild chili pepper. Alcohol is not really noticeable. Very nice stout.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, roasted barley, vanilla, and booze. Appearance is black with with a khaki colored head. Very good lacing. Taste is chocolate, brownies, vanilla, coffee, malty bitterness, and then some heat at the end. Full body with moderately low carbonation. Overall a rich, complex, creative, and well balanced imperial stout. Very delicious.

04.03.2014, 0,35l bottle @ home:
Big brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is rich and slightly sweet, espresso, cocoa, dark sugar, vanilla, dark malts, licorice, chili. Taste is slightly dry and burnt, espresso, dark malts, vanilla, cocoa, nice warming chili, grass, licorice, burnt caramel, dark sugar. Longlasting mild bitterness, slightly thick syrupy mouthfeel. Very nice. It’s just incredible how they have camouflaged 14% ABV to being around 6-7%.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle pours very dark brown with tan head. Aroma strong coffee with slight roast and dark chocolate. Taste roast malts with cocoa. I didn’t pick up much vanilla. Palate thick and rich. Finish mild dull roast and moderate pepper burn. Peppers integrated nicely into this. Alcohol very well disguised but a little more alcohol presence wouldn’t have hurt actually.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with soapy tan head. Nose is coffee, milk chocolate, hint of vanilla. Taste is coffee beans, chocolate, cacao, there's a tingle/spicy note in the middle and especially in the aftertaste that I'm assuming is the chili peppers, then ends with bitter coffee. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky, but not chewy/overly viscous. Sweet but not overly so. It's a really good well balanced stout. Not too much of anything, very solid beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black. Alchy tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee with a hint of cocoa. Tastes like a 6.7% coffee porter so be careful. Quite an accomplishment for alcohol hiding, though I’m not so sure as y’all how great of an idea that is.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Appearance - black. No head.
Aroma - slightly sweet. Hints of chocolate. Terrifically light.
Mouth - slightly more carb than the pour suggested. Not as oily and viscous but I would consider it low carb.
Taste - very gentle start. Excellent chocolate malt flavor at the finish. Didn't detect any pepper. The gravity is well hidden. Tongue slightly tingles after some time. Not in your face but balanced well.
Overall - this beer is fantastic.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A jet black pour builds beneath a medium-dark khaki head initially standing about one inch tall, falling over a couple minutes to a thin sheet and thick jagged peninsula of lace around half the snifter
Big smooth black coffee greets the senses lined in clearing pepper, fudgey dark chocolate picks up as the wafting coffee fades, also revealing a highly enjoyable smooth layer of vanilla bridging the other characteristics, a touch of roast with hints of smoke accent the pepper high notes
Cola joins the aromatic components mid palate along with notes of raisin and date, finishing lightly smokey and roasty with a building bright and clear pepper heat on a creamy smooth body on the light side of heavy building into a dense, somewhat frothy arrangement with a lively drying finishing texture, eventually achieving a light burn, with warmth well into the 60’s, this one becomes more slick and silky with a seemingly lighter weight in the med-heavy range, ears are starting to warm as the snifter empties
2014 batch released Jan 22 served at 55º into 16oz Sade brandy snifter
