Bottle split at Bruce’s Pad, from an IP, 12/06/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a good sized tan covering that retains well. Nose is dark fruit rinds, bretty pangs, funk’o’clock, spice, root liqourice, dark toffee rinse. Taste comprises dark berry fruit, liqourice, brett, light roast, spice, Ribena berries, funky rinse. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid enough stuff.

Corked bottle: Pours a deep brown with amber highlights, lasting head. Lovely combo of barnyard wildness and toasty dark ale. Wonderfully complex yet still restrained. The 2nd best brew I have from Prairie.

Inbreak (2403) - Loddefjord, NORWAY - JUN 17, 2014
16.06.2014, 0,75l bottle @ BBGTC tasting:
Big fizzy shortlasting head. Aroma is kind of funky, mild brett, overripe crowberries, barnyard, dark malts, mold, sour coffee, tea, spices, hints of licorice. Taste is slightly dry, heather, mild brett, hay, paper, minerals, sour coffee, spices. Medium bitterness, slightly harsh mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Bottle 750ml @ ClubGonzo
Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma has notes of malt, chocolate, funky, mango and pineapple. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long slightly roasty, berry and funky finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Scopey (7406) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 14, 2014
Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours opaque dark brown with a thick light tan head. The nose is earthy, toasty, ash, dark fruits, jammy berry, light barnyard and candy. The taste is toasty, earthy, barnyard, jammy fruits, roasted malt, cocoa, charred wood, ash, sherbet, citrus peel and some acidity. Full body and high carbonation. Pretty punchy stuff. I am not sure the balance is quite there, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Black pour with a big tan head. Big time funky aromas with notes of spice and plenty of hops. Flavor is way too hoppy and over the top funky. There are some subtle clove and cinnamon notes that are trying desperately to come out but are just crushed by everything else going on. Finishes bone dry. This brew was a mess, I can’t decide what they were trying to do here. Maybe it cellars well but as is, no thank you.

Bottle. A- Funky, dank, musty, sweet. A- Black color, dark liquid, huge tan frothy head. T- Funky, slightly malty, slightly sweet, slightly sour. P- Medium body, average texture, high carbonation, astringent finish. O- With a name like Funky Galaxy, I should have known this was gonna be funky. The aroma reminded me of my grandma’s basement. As it warmed, some chocolate tones seemed to appear, but this was still not was I was hoping for. Just not my thing.

As a so-called "Galaxy hopped black farmhouse ale," Funky Galaxy is probably the most unusual beer I’ve had in a long-ass time. Pouring midnight black, this Farmhouse Ale looks more like an Imperial Stout. The head is just ridiculous - velvety, frothy, retentive, and brown. The smell proves that this beer is aptly named. There’s a whole lot of dank yeast funk that makes you think of basement or barnyard smells. It finds its way onto the tongue, too. Funky Galaxy has a strong yeast taste but it’s also countered by the fresh hops and rich malts. The hop bitterness is concealed but you can still pick up their subtle fruit flavors. The chocolatey notes from the malt help to mellow out the funk. For all of the lively carbonation and huge flavors, this Farmhouse Ale has a silky, refreshing mouthfeel. This one’s an oddball, no doubt about that. Still, Funky Galaxy offers a whole lot of yeasty goodness and a fun range of flavors to explore.

My Bottom Line:
Raisins and earthy roasted notes tag along citrus and tropical fruit in this complex, fluffy brew.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the cloudy dark brown.
-There is so much going on in this one it’s almost hard to find a dominating character and hang on to it.
-Bitterness is mild, leaving room for fruitiness and peppery spiciness.
-Drinkability is very high.
-Grape juice flavors are also discovered.

Bottle.
