Bottle: Thanks, Jeff! Mostly black all around with a HUGE, mocha colored head that lasts for days, chunky & perched atop the black brew. Aroma is kind of strange & all over the place with lots of clashing elements... grass, mild Brett funk, wood, pineapple, roast, more grass, citrus peel, bubblegum (hinting at Belgian yeast), hint of cocoa powder... Quite a lot to take in all at once. Taste starts with a bit of char & roasted malt, even with faint coffee beans, leading into a big pot of ashy, peppery, & herbal hops... Notes of zesty grass & fruity orange peel play over the roasted malt, leading to a quite dry & staunchly bitter finish. Unique, that’s for sure, but the flavor combinations don’t compliment each other as gracefully as I’d hoped. Still good overall, but my expectations were higher.

Ridiculously deep and dark brown coloured body with a nice, perfectly microfoamed, three centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of brett, sour milk, grapes, wax, bread, yeast, hay, grass and a bit of light hops - not much though. Medium-bodied; Assertive spicey yeast character at first with a lot of breadiness, some sour notes, hints of grapes and and astringent bitterness at first with a great deal of floral hops, hay and grass kicking in on the finish. Aftertaste shows some depth with the yeast and bread flavours hitting the hardest and a little nuttiness and a definite earthiness and dry flavour finishing it all off. Overall, an interesting and complex beer, but nothing too great in any of the dimensions for it to be a great beer nor one worth searching out for to spend a lot of money. I get hype on some beers and breweries, but I just let a specific beer (without a label) stand up on its own, and this one is average at best, period. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Small Batch Liquors in Denver, Colorado on 07-June-2014 for US$7.99 sampled at home in Washington on 24-July-2014.

500 ml (I think ?) bottle from Les Vignerons. Pitch black, no light passing through, with a huge, creamy and fluffy, forever lasting light beige head. Brett and flowers on the nose, relatively hoppy, some light dark fruits, caramel, lots of fruit esters and spices. Quite fruity overall. Completely different in the mouth: much more malty than hoppy, little sourness/acidic edge, not too much roasted malts/chocolate/coffee presence as I was expecting. Mild bitterness, candy sugar, spices and berries in the aftertaste. Average to lively carbonation, medium to full body, slightly creamy texture. Looks and smells great, but the flavour is just not blended and harmonious enough, imho. Still nice.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Colin. Murky dark brown beer, big fluffy pale cream colour head. Airy light palate. Big brett. Touches of fruit and light malts but this is a brett bomb! Light finish.

Bottle, shared with BBGTC feat. Yngwie and Meilby. Clear dark brown body, large foamy off-white head. Nose is bretty stable tones with loads of hay and straw, citrus, mild red berries and hints of horse blanket. Taste is bitter herbs, citric peel, hay, straw and hints of grass, horsey barnyard tones, cold coffee and dark berries. Medium body and carbonation. Pretty nice farmhouse brew, only not quite my style of beer (which of course draws the score down a bit).

Bottle split at Bruce’s Pad, from an IP, 12/06/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a good sized tan covering that retains well. Nose is dark fruit rinds, bretty pangs, funk’o’clock, spice, root liqourice, dark toffee rinse. Taste comprises dark berry fruit, liqourice, brett, light roast, spice, Ribena berries, funky rinse. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid enough stuff.

Corked bottle: Pours a deep brown with amber highlights, lasting head. Lovely combo of barnyard wildness and toasty dark ale. Wonderfully complex yet still restrained. The 2nd best brew I have from Prairie.

16.06.2014, 0,75l bottle @ BBGTC tasting:
Big fizzy shortlasting head. Aroma is kind of funky, mild brett, overripe crowberries, barnyard, dark malts, mold, sour coffee, tea, spices, hints of licorice. Taste is slightly dry, heather, mild brett, hay, paper, minerals, sour coffee, spices. Medium bitterness, slightly harsh mouthfeel. Fair enough.

Bottle 750ml @ ClubGonzo
Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma has notes of malt, chocolate, funky, mango and pineapple. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long slightly roasty, berry and funky finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours opaque dark brown with a thick light tan head. The nose is earthy, toasty, ash, dark fruits, jammy berry, light barnyard and candy. The taste is toasty, earthy, barnyard, jammy fruits, roasted malt, cocoa, charred wood, ash, sherbet, citrus peel and some acidity. Full body and high carbonation. Pretty punchy stuff. I am not sure the balance is quite there, but I enjoyed it anyway.
