4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: AUG 4, 2013 Pours a pale orangish yellow, straw color. The beer is quite cloudy. The head puffs up into quite a mass at first, but it proves to be rather fizzy and dissipates quickly. Pretty much no bubbles are left at a minute, and thereís no lacing. The aroma is chock full of Nelson Sauvin hops. Itís wonderfully and fresh and juicy. Iím getting grape, melon and pineapple flavors primarily with peach, orange, lime, mint, mango and grass adding to the mix. Itís a tremendous hop aroma. Underneath all of that hop fruitiness, thereís a touch of yeasty, earthy funk. It doesnít hit you in the face like the hops, but the beer is definitely in saison/farmhouse territory when you look for the yeast flavors. Just a touch of soft honey-ish malt. The taste is starts off with sweet fruitiness and more of that honeyed pale malt before developing a firm bitterness of lime rind, lemon/grapefruit pith and earth. Thereís a spicy, herbal edge of juniper, mint, peppercorns and earl grey bergamot. The yeast dries out the beer and shows off some of that funky prairie flavor, but itís not the focus of this beer. This beer is a celebration of the Nelson Sauvin hop. I absolutely love Alpine Nelson and Keene Idea, but while a rather different take, íMerica can stand with those beers as the best expression of the hop that Iíve tried. Mouthfeel is lively with lots of hop oiliness. The finish is drying and the bitterness lingers for some time. This is a wonderful beer. My only slight knock on it is that I think the malt flavor could use a little tweak, maybe a touch of wheat. Regardless, Prairie has proven themselves as a brewery to watch with a second round of excellent releases. Iím thrilled that they have wide distribution and look forward to more beers from them.

Bottle. Pours with a hazy straw yellow hued body with a large and retentive white head. Aromas show huge tropical fruit, horseblanket, pineapple, apricot, funk, wet hay, passionfruit. Intensely phenolic and goat like with a nice dry hop character. Medium to low bitterness, straw, lots of brett phenols with a few pineapple esters, black pepper, goat and tropical fruit. Great balance. Very high (3.1+vol) carbonation, dry and bright.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a near clear pale gold with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of onion with some musty pine a bit of underlying funk and a touch of sweet grains. Flavor starts with a slight tartness and has a combination of onion and earthy tropical fruits with a good amount of backing funk. Not a fan of the onion note.

Dull, hazy, yeasty color. Holy Nelson Sauvin hops Batman! Bold, fresh, dank aromas and flavors, mix with layers of spring onion, citrus, resinous herbs and earth. Great mouthfeel. Balanced. Refreshing. If you love the dank, citrusy, onion profile of the Nelson Sauvin hop.. You will appreciate this. Pure, simple and well made.
