‘Merica is a single malt, single hop farmhouse ale. It’s brewed with floor malted pilsner and 3lbs per bbl Nelson Sauvin hops. The beer is conditioned with 2 brett strains and wine yeast. The Nelson hops provide white wine flavors while Brettanomyces add a juicy quality to the beer.

Aroma: The nose is actually quite funky, some nice yeast, spice, and some fruit as well
Appearance: Pours a murky golden color with a small, quickly dissipating white head and no lace
Flavor: This one has a good funky flavor, lots of spice and yeast, and some clean, underlying hops
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, it has an almost lively carbonation, and nice, dry finish
Overall Impression: The unofficial beer of my father who’s been using the word ’Merica for as long as I can remember. This beer impressed me. The funkiness works nicely with the other components, including the nice hop presence. Not necessarily similar, but for some reason it is reminiscent of Anchorage Love Buzz for me. Really tasty stuff.

Hazy pale yellow. Aroma had lemon, pineapple, herbs, grass, and funk. Very complex aroma. Taste was similarly complex. I found the taste to be a little more bitter than I like, but I’m not particularly a fan of bitter hoppiness in general. Even still, I thought this was a very good beer.

A very, very nice example of the style. Poured a nice hazy golden color with a whispy head. Tons of spice across the palate.

Aroma is fairly funky with some nice phenolic notes but balanced with the typical nelson sauvin hop characteristics. Light background malt notes. Phenolics are lemon pepper and a hint of coriander. Light citrus and pear esters. Pours a slightly hazy pale straw yellow with a big, pillowy white head. Head recedes fairly quickly but a small head does persist. Flavor starts with a hint of sweet pilsner malt, but then the yeast takes over. Lots of phenolics again with some funkiness to it. The phenolics are again lemony with pepper and coriander. The nelson hops are less prevalent in the flavor lending just a medium hint of grapes and melon. Nice moderate bitterness with light mineral water character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high to high carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall a really nice example of how yeast can make a SMaSH really interesting, especially when using an intriguing hop like Nelson Sauvin. I might have to culture this yeast and attempt to clone this bad boy. America, Fuck Yeah! Actually, no might; going down stairs to grab a jar of starter fluid now.

A most unusual beer. There's so much going on with the aroma that its overwhelming. Sweet basil, lemon verbena, citronella, over ripened mangoes, and the sour musk of ferrel yeast. Taste is equally complex and beautiful. I would describe it as one of the best beers I've ever tasted but the proper words fail me. Kind of like an orange crush ice cream float with grand marnier garnished with mint and basil. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Musty hay drizzled with ripe pineapple juice and garnished with lemongrass and sweet basil. A dust rich beam of sunshine aswirl in a glass. Refreshing bitterness...yeast resurrected. Sweet then dry then gone...an oasis amongst amber waves of grain! Love. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draught at Petrol Station. This brew is a cloudy yellow color with a thin white head that recedes steadily to a fizzy film. Spotty lace. Aroma of fruit, malt and floral hops. Medium body with flavors of slightly funky fruit, yeast and toasted malt. The finish is fruity with a tart aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750ml served in a Duvel tulip. A - Pours a hazy brass golden color with 2 fingers of airy white foam. Melts pretty quick with zero lacing. S - Pungent grassy hops, musty onions, spicy floral, dirty hay, grapefruit and lemon citrus, dry white wine, it’s a very complex and savory aroma. Once warmed up a bit the aroma turns sharp and has more of a pungent potpourri smell going on. T - Starts off with spicy floral hops with wild onion patch bite, very earthy grassy flavors that are cut by a clean citrus zest, there’s almost a saltiness to it as well. The malt is subtle and I wouldn’t have known it was floor malted if it wasn’t on the label. Finishes spicy with a very dry finish. Notes of lemon and herbs on the aftertaste. M - Spritzy carbonation, medium body, carbonation drops off a little quick. One of the best single malt/hop beers I’ve had. This beer is very complex and pulls flavors and aromas that I’ve never experienced in one beer before. Well done. This paired very well with spicy artichoke dip. Serving type: bottle 03-23-2013
