No wax. New batch that came in to local stores on 11/1. The beer is black with a very small light brown head. Just a coating of fine bubbles after a minute. The aroma has a nice strong stout character, tending towards fudgey chocolate. Mild chili note. Big on vanilla, though less than I’ve found in various batches of the base beer. Some sugary rum on top of it. Not much oak. Mild dark roast fruitiness. Sweet, spicy and boozy in the taste. The booze is nice and warming. The spice interacts with it a bit oddly, but it’s a pleasant oddness, like a very spicy, chocolatey rum. Very tasty stuff. It seems a bit less sweet than the base version, but it’s big and fudgey and spicy and rummy and full of vanilla. Tasty stuff. Mouth-coating but not over the top or terribly sticky. Very good.

Bottle... Pours pitch black with a fleeting, creamy, khaki head. The bouquet is of huge, rich, deep-roast coffee interwoven with fudge and vanilla. Full-bodied with nearly-expired carbonation. The flavor is a bold marriage of bitter, 85% cacao chocolate and hearty, Cuban-roast espresso. Finishes burnt, bitter and acrid. Bottle provided by biggsbowler!

smells of freshly washed car, lemon rind (the rum barrel is doing strange things to the aromas.) appearance: dark brown with quickly dissipating mocha head. great lacing: nice thick layer on the side of the snifter. taste: taste is pretty delicious: sweet and spicy rum and cola, hershey’s syrup, ends with bittersweet cocoa powders and faintly astringent coffees. palate: medium and slightly creamy body--foamy body, more like. foamy like a car wash? lively carbo on this one. solid, and the strange as hell aroma does not ruin things as much as i’d expect.

Pitch black with tiny bubbles of khaki head. Smells of fudge chocolate, a little cheese smell, vegetal pepper, oak barrel, mocha, chocolate doughnut, rum. Taste is very chocolatey, dark chocolate, cocoa, pepper burn in the back, rum, some roasted coffee, some roasted ash, some vanilla. Can't detect the alcohol, very smooth. The rum character and coffee comes out more as it warms. The barrel aging adds a lot of character and transforms the regular bomb into a chocolate run dream. Well done, bravo. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 bottle. Black. Chocolate fudge with a hint of chili and vanilla. A little coffee. Incredibly smooth. Barely a hint of the alcohol. Very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I could smell the rum on the pour. When the head settles it is a great blend of vanilla chocolate rum. Kind of sweet smelling. Appears black with a tan ring and all the head is gone quick. I think this tastes great. The rum barrel has imparted just enough to the overall beer without overpowering everything else. Chocolate, rum, coffee, and vanilla. Great beer overall, maybe a tad thin.

Thank you very much for this one, Jason! Pours a dark brown, soon vanishing, bubbly head, which leaves small spots of lace, while mahogany in color, almost complete black. The nose booms with coffee, bitter chocolate and dark caramel, supporting hints of vanilla, which are imparted by an oaken, smooth barrel influence, along with a distinct rum infusion. Has an outstanding complexity, lots of tastes blend together within split-seconds. Begins with soft milk chocolate and toffee notes, heated up by a chili burn from the back of the palate. Bitterness reveals itself under the unfolding spiciness, part of due to the rum barrel, with a slick, almost dry, rich coffee character. This gets balanced by earthy malts, with lots of toffee and caramel qualities, leading to a vanilla note, which introduces the palate to the gentle, boozy rum barrel taste. Once the rum gets detectable it wraps up the whole palate by enhancing the full-bodied character of this brew, without overpowering any nuances. Both vanilla and chili interact for a long while, hovering above the deep, slightly roasted coffee bitterness with dark, sweetened choclate in the finish. Ends a bit sweeter, with chocolate fudge, chilis and wooden rum notes, which seem to be a perfect match, adding a warm, smooth impression to the beer, without revealing any alcoholic notes. Wow!

Pours a deep burnt umber with a finger of khaki foam. The nose is sweet chocolate syrup with lots of underlying complexity of coconut, marshmallow, cinnamon and earthy pepper. The palate follows the nose with a big roasty chocolate malt base that is a perfect accomplice to the spiced pepper, vanilla soaked booze that rides into the finish. Great lingering cinnamon and marshmallow finish

Bottle to taster. Looks good; a mostly opaque very dark (almost black) cola with thin mocha lacing. Smells good too; dark malt, roast, pepper, oak, and soft rum. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Good stuff.

Pours a pitch black with a small khaki ring. Smells like rum soaked fruit, slight chili, cocoa and vanilla. Taste is similar with slight cocoa, cola, pepper, rum, vanilla, and fruit. Smooth and oily texture that drinks like a rum. All in all pretty tasty ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
