Pirate bomb is our beer Prairie Bomb! aged in rum casks. The flavor from the casks helps impart more vanilla and coconut flavors to the beer while helping to add more body and smoothness to the already explosive and expressive flavors of Bomb!

Very dark brown, almost black, very very small light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, sweet coffee, dark caramel, dark fruit, light soy sauce notes but mainly oak caramel and vanilla sweetness (rum) all the way. Taste is sweet-ish but not cloying, dark fruits, oak again, alcohol nowhere to be seen... Finish is light spicy(chilli peppers?). An amazingly strong tasting beer with oak character and roasted malts dominating.

A very special beer, dear to my heart. It really tastes differently at every temperature, so you can’t really appreciate it with a few sips. Immediately after being served from the tap, you can smell the vanilla and the rum, while the chili spiciness dominates the taste. As the beer warms down, chocholate, coffee and coconut slowly parade in your mouth and nose, pleasently surprising you every time. Finally, once the beer has been in your glass for an hour or so, you take a sip and the taste is completely different. All the seperate aromas and tastes have disappeared, they have been perfectly blended together in a unique smell and a unique taste (the two perfectly compliment each other), the smell and taste of the Prairie Pirate Bomb. A great beer with a great name. Many thanks to George from the Hoppy Pub for importing this gem to Greece!

355ml bottle. Pitch black crownless body, pouring like engine oil. Heavy roasted aromas, alongside with dark chocolate, ash, vanilla and dark sugars. Tastes is dry, with dark choholate, rye bread, ash and coffee notes. Semi sweet finish. Quite easy to drink for a strong ale as this.

Thanks to gregwilsonstl for sharing this with me. Pours dark brown with not much of a head. The aroma has roast, caramel, sweetness, brown sugar and rum. It has a full thick body with only a minor amount of carbonation. The taste is drier than the aroma with more alcohol, dark fruits, harsh earth and wood. The finish is abrasive, but fits with the beer. Quite good.

Bottle. Thanks to Werckmeister. Black body nearly no tan head. Aroma is old grass, cocoa with ash and roasted malts but also some dried fruits and some liquorice. Taste is roasted malts with chocolate and also some herbs and coffee maybe also some liquorice. Aftertaste is roasted malts bitterness with also some malt sweetness in the background and some nice balanced hot chillies. Nice one.

Nutty aroma. Dark black. Lots of vanilla. Coconut abounds. Hints of coconut rum. Its like a Malibu Rum stout, in a good way. Very good actually. 13% Alcohol is hidden. Thx GreatDane1632 for helping me cross off this want!

355 ml bottle shared by Werckmeister at RB Tasting Linz thanks a lot!
Black body, with a small, dense, creamy, dark beige head.
Aroma of espresso, dry cocoa, wood, some liquorice, some spices.
Tastes of espresso, chili, dark chocolate, wood, some liquorice, dry cocoa.
Full, oily mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes hot from the chili, dry, roasty, with coffee, cocoa, liquorice.

Tasty. The nose is really lovely, while the taste has a bit too much hot chili for my liking. Would be amazing with less chili, because of the lovely espresso and dry dark malt notes. Overall not among my favourite Imperial Stouts, but unique and complex nonetheless.

355ml bottle at Austrian RB Meeting in Linz shared by me from trade with Nische, many thanks. No obvious BB date. smells of stinging nettle, roasty malt, chili, alcohol, bitter chocolate, herbs, liqueurish. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes malty roasty, chocolate, coffee, lightly sour, light chili spiciness, ash, some herbal notes, some alcohol, a bit medical. finishes with alcohol, light chili spiciness, malty roast and bitter chocolate / medical notes. nice, rather complex, unique, but not totally my thing. would drink again though.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2015 Bottle @ Saturday night tasting - The Stein & Vine.

12oz bottle in a taster at Plan Bee. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, burnt coffee, light rum barrels and vanilla, and some spiciness, plus light notes of spice/dark fruits. Flavor the same with too much burnt coffee. Average texture. If all the coffee in Prairie’s beer tastes burnt, I feel bad for people who want good coffee in that area. Learn how to roast coffee then how to utilize it in beer.
