Bottle from unknown via Lawson. Pours an opaque black-brown with a medium brown head. Aroma spice-forward, with some roasty notes and vanilla as well. Not really a whole lot, if any rum. Body full and roasty, finish wonderful interplay of coffee, spice, vanilla, and oak. Not sure whether I dig this or the OG more, but Prairie is impressive.

Fresh, this beer is quite possibly beer of the year. Quite the revelation, a perfect combination of coffee and rum. The rum shines in a sweet way, but not cloying. Even after a couple weeks this started to fade. Drink fresh if a new batch comes out.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle pours dark brown black with a thin head. Nose is dark roasty cocoa, some subtle chili heat spice, soft rum fruity spice influence, cola. Taste is a touch thinner than expected, roasty coffee and cocoa mix with understated fruity rum spice, cake, and finishes with fruity cola and chocolate and subtle trailing pepper spice and heat.

Green wax bottle to Spiegleau stout glass. I decided,to rate this tonight because I loved it when I had it before. I have been thinking since then that it’s one of my favorite stouts. Curious to see how it compares to others I have rated. Black pour with mahogany hues. I had to coax the head a bit when pouring and was worried that the beer was kind of flat. The head has reduced to a millimeter thick toasted marshmallow color. The head coats the glass momentarily with a swirl but there is minimal traditional lace. Aroma is anise, ash, balers chocolate, and rum. The taste is what makes this a winner. It’s roasty, bittersweet, smooth, and the rum treatment is amazingly well integrated into the flavors of the beer. I got more chili spice on the first sip but now just feel a warmth from it and the rum in the back of my throat. Very pleasing and becomes more enjoyable as you drink it. Vanilla dances on the tongue after each sip. There’s barely any carbonation but the body is not lacking from it. In fact, this is quite drinkable given all of the other characteristics. Just delightful.

Green wax. Pours black with lasting mocha head, great sudsy lacing. Aroma is fudge chocolate, spicy vanilla, espresso. Taste is rum, vanilla, espresso, fudge brownies, slight hint of chili flavor in the finish but no heat as previous bombs have head. Very nice barrel treatment as it complements the beer but is not overwhelming. I like this one over the original and Bible. Would love an apple brandy barrel treatment - here’s hoping for the future.
