3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Shared large bottle. Very dark opaque redtoned edges.
Very full thick feel with low but adequate carbonation. Alcohol burn reduces the rating.
Tastes very rich with moderate complexity. Restrained rum barrel effects.

Immensément sucré avec une forte présence vanillée et épicée. La présence en bouche est moins impressionnante que certaines versions sinon la décadence y est.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
My Bottom Line:
Chocolate-flavored pastries and brown rum surf roasted cereals in this sugary Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the dark brown-hued black.
-Barrel flavors are nicely integrated.
-This was as good, not better, as the ’regular’ Noir. A fun variation.
-The mouthfeel is soft and plump.
-Light spiciness is perceived.

2.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
This one pours a black tar with a short lived tan etching. The first and most intense part of the nose is that of finger nail polish and/or acetone - really not nice. Under that there is alcohol burn, sweet coconut, cocoa powder, touch of oak and raisin. Flavor is rich fudge, sweet molasses, some bitters (the drink additive), some alcohol and oak. Medium bodied on full with moderately limited carb and a semi dry finish. I’m rather happy I’m not in the trading circuit, this appears to cost a ton more than it’s worth.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Reviewed from notes: Cocoa and rum on the nose. Rum, cocoa, and roasted malts on the palate. The rum barrel imparts an interesting sweetness on the finish. A bit young and hot right now, I’d be interested to see how this one ages.

At the marina on grapevine lake with Seth, Scott, Noah, Matt, and Kevin, fall 2013. From an unlabeled bottle Scott got for helping Chase move. Pours black with foamy tan thick head. Aroma is subtle rum that melds with the dark malty notes into a soft smooth toasted nose. Very nice. Taste is savory toasted maltiness with an accent of sweet non-boozy rum, coconut, marshmallow. Full bodies and full flavored with a soft smooth mouthfeel. An awesome beer, might be a little young at this point.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some rum, light chocolate and coffee notes, some dough and light bitterness. Flavor the same. Thicker texture. A decent imperial stout but could have more rum and more flavor overall.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle thanks to northernbrews/tectactoe/mrebeks for sharing. Pours very dark brown with a small bubbly head that fades to a small ring. Aroma are rum, alcohol, chocolate, and light roasted coffee. Taste is better than the aroma. Smooth chocolate cake mixed with rum. Hint of roasted coffee in the finish. Some hot alcohol in the finish too. I think this would be very good without the alcohol in the aroma and finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Dark, almost black center with deep brown edges, a beige ring tops this one off; not much of a "head". Lots of tropical rum on the nose with a mild onset of fusel alcohol... Burnt caramel, mild ash, roast, chocolate cake, & a hint of cola.. Taste also has plenty of borderline boozy rum up front with an underlying tropical essence, followed by lighter notes of wood, chocolate, dark malts, & roast, leading to some burnt brown sugar & more rum in the aftertaste. Lingering alcohol & dense cocoa. Medium bodied, I was expecting a thicker/fuller body here. It’s a good rum barreled stout, but I expected a little more based on some of the other stuff coming out of Prairie’s brewery recently.
