3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at Route CBC. It pours jet black with a bubbly tan head. The nose is sweet, rich, sweet rum, Welch’s grape juice, boozy, chocolate cake, light spice and vanilla. The taste is chewy, sweet grape juice, fruit cake, quite juicy, dark chocolate, alcohol warmth, sticky sweetness, molasses and roasted malt. Medium - full body, foamy carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Pretty intense, but lacks balance. It is a bit all over the place....sweet, chewy and rough. So-so.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Black pour, minimal head, aroma is soy sauce, malt, little booze, light. Taste is light rum, soy sauce, light roasted malt, significant alcohol. Finishes with some alcohol and bitterness. Not as complex as I would like. Bit thin for a big imply. Not a huge fan.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Head is initially very small, fizzy/frothy, brown, fully diminishing.
Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight tested).
Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate syrup, roasted grain), with a strong note of alcohol, other notes of vanilla, brown sugar, molasses.
Flavor is heavily to harshly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Full body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation, heavily to harshly alcoholic.
Dammit, I was hoping this would be comparable to the very solid Apple Brandy Barrel Noir, but this ain’t even in the same ballpark...typical sugar-booze bomb with no elegance or balance whatsoever. Undrinkable. What a frustrating pseudo-brewery!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12-oz. Pours jet black with a dense and creamy tan head that lasts. Big sweet nose, very boozy, sbowing molasses and chocolate and vanilla. Sticky thick body with heavy carb. Chocolatey, sugary, boozy vanilla mid palate. It’s a bit much for one person but still enjoyable.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
355ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is as always with Prairie stouts very pleasant. Light roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, mild rum notes and brown sugar. Flavour is sweet and light bitter. Medium to full bodied, a bit oily texture, soft carbonation. I would have liked it more if it had a fuller body and was chewy. Finish is semi sweet and warming rum notes. A nice pirate that doesn’t harm anybody.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz bottle picked up either from Dutch’s or Appalachian Vintner in Asheville. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma has a nice mix of the base stout with its creamy chocolate, marshmallow, vanilla, mild plus roast character and the additional sweetness from the rum barrel and its coconut, wood and booze. The flavor follows suit with the chocolate, dark fruit, vanilla, oatmeal, marshmallow, and mild roast being coated with layers of rum, coconut and wood, catch a little booze to this and it is on the sweet side but I like it.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pitch black in color... Aroma is dark malts and huge rum barrel notes, coconut on nose... Flavor is sticky dark malts, chocolate, and tons of barrel, rum throughout... Oatmeal stout base is a little thin compared to bomb, thought pirate bomb worked a little better... Enjoyable though
