Bottle shared by Phil. Black pour with a tan head. Roasted malt, rum, chocolate, and soap on the nose. Charred wood, some booze, and a touch of vanilla. The flavor is kind of soapy. A bit of booze, rum, and roast. Dark chocolate, hints of vanilla, and charred oak. Maybe a touch of fruit. Kind of disappointing, particularly next to the other variants.

At the marina on grapevine lake with Seth, Scott, Noah, Matt, and Kevin, fall 2013. From an unlabeled bottle Scott got for helping Chase move. Pours black with foamy tan thick head. Aroma is subtle rum that melds with the dark malty notes into a soft smooth toasted nose. Very nice. Taste is savory toasted maltiness with an accent of sweet non-boozy rum, coconut, marshmallow. Full bodies and full flavored with a soft smooth mouthfeel. An awesome beer, might be a little young at this point.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some rum, light chocolate and coffee notes, some dough and light bitterness. Flavor the same. Thicker texture. A decent imperial stout but could have more rum and more flavor overall.

Bottle thanks to northernbrews/tectactoe/mrebeks for sharing. Pours very dark brown with a small bubbly head that fades to a small ring. Aroma are rum, alcohol, chocolate, and light roasted coffee. Taste is better than the aroma. Smooth chocolate cake mixed with rum. Hint of roasted coffee in the finish. Some hot alcohol in the finish too. I think this would be very good without the alcohol in the aroma and finish.

Bottle: Dark, almost black center with deep brown edges, a beige ring tops this one off; not much of a "head". Lots of tropical rum on the nose with a mild onset of fusel alcohol... Burnt caramel, mild ash, roast, chocolate cake, & a hint of cola.. Taste also has plenty of borderline boozy rum up front with an underlying tropical essence, followed by lighter notes of wood, chocolate, dark malts, & roast, leading to some burnt brown sugar & more rum in the aftertaste. Lingering alcohol & dense cocoa. Medium bodied, I was expecting a thicker/fuller body here. It’s a good rum barreled stout, but I expected a little more based on some of the other stuff coming out of Prairie’s brewery recently.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, coffee, light rum, and a hint of molasses. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate, caramel, and a touch of vanilla. The finish has moderate roasted coffee with a touch of rum. It?s medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel.

HMOG 2014. Pours black but visibly a bit thin. Aroma is spice, vanilla, dark malts, chocolate. Taste is coffee, cocoa, cinnamon, little vanilla and just a bit of rum. Palate is a bit thin. Ok.

Wow, guess I never entered this. Cork and cage bottle thanks to trade with abslyde! Pours a thick black with bubbly carbonation that leaves ring of brown head and light lace. Aroma of boozy chocolate and roasted malt. Taste follows, slight astringent middle, hint of spice

Bottle thanks to Casey. Pours a dark brown with a small beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is oak, booze, and roast. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet roast and nice lingering rum flavor. Hides the alcohol very well, really enjoyed this one.

Bottle generously shared Randall. Dark brown pour with a kaki head. Dark roasted malt aromas. Vanilla, caramel, and dark chocolate notes. Some bitterness (not sure if that’s from the hops or the malts). Above average body and mouthfeel.

Bottle, thnx to flunkminnow, shared at Epic Sour Sourpuss Tasting. Pours a black beer with a small beige head on top. Aroma is mayor wood, barrel characters shining trough like mad, big sweet aromas and the rum is certainly noticeable. Some booze, coffee and vanilla on the side. Flavor is very sweet and again the barrel aging is noticeable. Sweet dark rum returns in the flavor of this beer. Some resdiual sugars and booze are detected, but it suits nice. Very well crafted, amazing beer.
