Prairie Ale is our classic saison. We brew this beer with pilsner malt, wheat malt, flaked wheat, and cane sugar. A healthy dose of saaz hops are used to add a spicy element to the beer. Prairie Ale is fermented with a mix of ale yeast, wine yeast, and brettanomyces. Notes of black pepper and pineapple can be found in this beer.

Bottle from beer junction. Fantastic saison. Really bright coriander and some hints at a wine yeast possibly. Slightly peppery. Was this outstanding no. But a very good summery beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle share. Cloudy golden yellow and bubbly white cap. Aroma of really funky yeast, spices, fruit juice, lemon, wet barn hay. Taste is citrus sweet and tart. Clean and crisp. Medium dry finish. 8% is balanced so well.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2014 Bottle from Chuckís. 4/9/2014 Pours deep straw yellow with a nice white head. Lovely funk-and-lemon-juice aroma, leather, freshly-mowed wildflowers, hint of fresh pineapple juice. Flavor is a bit of a surprise after a time spent pondering the aroma -- sweeter and much less tart than I expected. Cracker malts up front, drying out later in the flavor profile. Peppery. A hint of rancid clementine orange late. Quaffable; very little hint of the 8.2% but little excuse for it either. (I wish American breweries would brew 5% saisons instead of focusing in the 8% range) I really wanted to love this one -- and on paper nothing wrong with a saison with exactly this flavor profile --- but the aroma and flavor just donít match up and the experience ends up unsatisfying. At $11/500ml, this one is just not a contender.

Revisit 12/12/14. Well, the price has dropped at least. I didnít mean to buy this one; I confused it with the other Prairie ales Iíve had and thought it was a 4-point-something beer. Oh well. Good to revisit these things. The rating above pretty much stands exactly as written. More banana than I noted in the previous, and a dustiness that is pleasant late in the bottle, but yeah--we can do better, especially with the Stillwater series going for $2.99 these days.

tl;dr summary: Flavor canít deliver what the aroma promises.

Bottle was a gusher. Pours a mega hazy yellow with big white head. Scent is funk, tropical fruit, lemons, and a touch of banana. Earthy sweet flavor finishes with overly bitter flavors. Mild aftertaste. Bottle - Received in Trade

Pretty big presence for a straight saison. Funky earthy aroma. Flavor is a little toasty grain and yeast astringent. Lots of bitterness and a dirty gritty finish. Finish is lemon bitterness.

From the March 2014 Pittsburgh Ratebeer gathering. +++ Sampled from a 16 oz brown bottle this beer poured a pale yellow color with a large fluffy white head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was bread, brett, dust, pepper, faint perfume, vague herbs and citrus. The flavor was dry, dusty, musty and bretty with notes of perfume, vague herbs and citrus. Medium length finish. Medium body. Ok.

This poured a hazy darker yellow color with a whit ehead. Aroma was of brett, lemons and grain. Falvor was similar, definitely a lightly funky bretty beer, but a bit one dimensional
