Prairie Ale is our classic saison. We brew this beer with pilsner malt, wheat malt, flaked wheat, and cane sugar. A healthy dose of saaz hops are used to add a spicy element to the beer. Prairie Ale is fermented with a mix of ale yeast, wine yeast, and brettanomyces. Notes of black pepper and pineapple can be found in this beer.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs), lightly to moderately yeasty (barnyard, cobwebs), with notes of gum, lemon zest, pepper, band aid, alcohol. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. This is a straight-up Victory Helios clone (with more alcohol), although itís more than 3x as expensive. Is it 3x as good? Well, no, but itís certainly a decent Belgian strong golden ale. Like Helios, itís not really a saison (certainly not a "classic" saison, as this brewer seems to contend...they might want to do a bit more research on that), but if you want to call this a "super saison" I guess you can do that. Itís a Belgian strong golden (with Brett), and for that itís quite pleasant...the aroma is nice and very Helios-like. Plastic-like, as with íMerica, but itís a bit more integrated and band-aid-like here, perhaps thanks to the Brett. The high alcohol is of course unwelcome, but thatís really the primary gripe. If they made a 5-6% version of this, I might be able to get on board with Krebs (oops, sorry...Prairie), but sadly that probably wonít happen. An enjoyable brew, but since itís so expensive relative to quality I canít imagine ever buying it again. Ten bucks for a single 500mL bottle brewed only one state away, and Dupont is nine bucks for 750mL of much better beer all the way from Belgium. Why???

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Cloudy yellow body topped by a dense creamy head that clings to my glass. Beautiful balance between bready, soft malts and zesty Saaz hops and peppery spicy yeast. Full-flavoured but danegrously drinkable, an excellent saison.

750 into a solo cup. Semi-opaque yellow with a massive head. Yeasty, peppery, white wine on the aroma. Taste follows, peppery and yeast. Simple classic saison flavors that are very enjoyable. Another winner from Prairie.

Bottle; Pour is cloudy light golden, with a two finger, fine bubbled white head into this glass. It retains average / above average, with some light spotting present. Well; it feels like a Prairie brew at this point - I didnít exactly sample them in some sort of proper order, however. The nose is peach, grass, peppery spicing. Florals, and minerals are present as well. The flavor profile is fairly clean, though theres a certain sharpness present. It rounds out when this brew warms, however. Bready malts, pineapple and pepper. Mineral water is present, with some fruity overtones. The sharpness does come through near the finish, with a touch of grain present as well. I enjoy their product, I appreciate them ; itís a good option.

Bottle: Poured a clear bright golden color ale with a large foamy head with great carbonation and excellent retention with some good lacing. Aroma consists of rustic malt with some dry hoppy notes with great floral undertones. Taste is also dominated by great floral hoppy notes with great rustic malt presence and a light spicy yeast flavours. Body is full with great carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Wonderful saison with great hops profile which brings complexity while retaining some good drinkability.
