COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prairie Ale is our classic saison. We brew this beer with pilsner malt, wheat malt, flaked wheat, and cane sugar. A healthy dose of saaz hops are used to add a spicy element to the beer. Prairie Ale is fermented with a mix of ale yeast, wine yeast, and brettanomyces. Notes of black pepper and pineapple can be found in this beer.

UPDATED: JUL 7, 2014 500mL bottle, pours a hazy dull blonde with a large white head. Aroma is quite spicy, with Belgian spice, black pepper, white wine notes and light funky brett. Flavour is quite complex and harmonious, with notes of pepper, spicy hops, brett, and maybe a touch of wine. All notes are really cohesive and the drinkability is exceptionally high. ABV is extremely well-hidden. Wonderful saison.

500 ml bottle from The Party Source. Pours a clear, light, bright gold with a finger of frothy white head that settles into a ring. There’s a big dose of bretty funk in the initial aroma, with bready malts, hay, barnyard, grass, citrus, pineapple, earth, and grapes. The flavor has the same bretty funk up front, followed by mostly the same notes; bread, bubblegum, straw, grass, citrus and tropical fruits, grapes, and earth. Light-bodied, with moderate to medium carbonation and a bitter, funky, smooth mouthfeel. Good saison.

Bottle. Pale gold with a white head. Aroma of damp hay, mandarins, pineapple, flowers. Sweet hay, a little bretty twang, mandarins, apricots, light tropical notes. Moderate but persistent bitterness, some pepper. The finish is a fair way off dry. Pleasant enough, like a slightly duller Moinette.

tectactoe (1855) - Michigan, USA - JUN 16, 2014
UPDATED: AUG 28, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Mike. Nearly clear yellow body with an enormous, chunky white & porous head; lots of sticky lacing on the glass. Aroma is a Brett bomb; damp hay, musty cotton blankets, funky & tart pineapple, straw, hint of white grape skins, just a very mellow acidity on the back with a touch of dirt & earthiness. More yeast-forward flavor, bubblegum notes, musty wood, cotton, dusty cobweb funk. Again, big brettanomyces presence. Woody, funky, pineapple-tinted Brett finish, dry as can be. Perhaps some light earthiness, otherwise the Saaz hops could be anything. A good saison, although it doesn’t stand out enough to make it great.

Banana, bread, lemon, and some spice in the aroma. Flavor is fruity, with banana and citrus, plus some earthy bitterness. A little peppery spice in the aroma, as well as some drying alcohol. I’ve had a lot of very average saisons lately, but this is one solid beer.

Cloudy glowing yellow, light foamy head. Smells like black pepper, barnyard. Tastes light and refreshing, with a peppery funk that is complex but not out in front. Just right.

Bottle. Pours clear golden with big white head. Nose is a lot of Brett and Saaz. Maybe a little pineapple. Taste is also Brett with some pepper and candy. Refreshing. Dry aftertaste.
