COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prairie Ale is our classic saison. We brew this beer with pilsner malt, wheat malt, flaked wheat, and cane sugar. A healthy dose of saaz hops are used to add a spicy element to the beer. Prairie Ale is fermented with a mix of ale yeast, wine yeast, and brettanomyces. Notes of black pepper and pineapple can be found in this beer.

Pours a rich golden color with a two finger sticky foam. Aromas are nice and complex with earthy orchard fruits, peppery spice and a good dose of barnyard funk. The palate is tasty refreshing and beautifully balanced. Nice layers of flavors ranging from citrusy tart lime and funky barnyard earth with hints of peppery spice and round fruit. Touch of grassy hops and a clean dry bitter finish. I took care of this bottle quickly and need more !

Bottle at home. Pour is hazy golden-orange, with a fluffy white head and decent lacing. Peachy, grassy, somewhat floral, biscuity, fruity, white wine, light spice, citrusy, oaky, and pineapple in the aroma. Taste is big peach/apricot, grassy, somewhat earthy, pineapple, mango - strong pepper backbone - oaky, white wine characteristics, hay, and and light banana with a spicy finish. Medium body and high carbonation. Tasty stuff.

Tasted on 5/14/13 from a corked and caged 750mL bottle purchased at Tops. Pours just thicker than average, with a fluffy white head that slowly recedes to thin, uneven lace. The nose is tangy with a starfruit/gooseberry aroma with some spicy hops and a spicy yeast aroma. The flavor is more dry, funky, and spicy, with the tangy note an afterthought, and some very nice hops bitterness. The body is fairly light with lively carbonation and a long, spicy yeast, nicely bitter, and just a touch of tangy tropical fruit finish.

A steady pour into my New Belgium tulip produces a three-finger thick (one of which is above the rim of my glass), pale, off-white colored head. The beer is a nice yellow color that shows a clear, madly bubbly, yellow gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of dried hay, pale grain, fresh cut straw, grassy / herbal hops, light citrus, and a touch of pear like fruit character. The dominant note in this beer, the hop and grain character, accentuated by the yeast aromatics, makes this beer smell of dried grass, other dried weed / wild-flowers, and light herbal notes. The yeast character is less expressive than I was expecting, but does provide a hint of peppery spiciness, touches of musty, earthy spice notes, and some soft, medicinal, funky phenolics if you really dig for them towards the finish.

Light bodied, quite effervescent, and very dry, the beer finishes with a funky, phenolic, Brett-like character that is somewhat soft, but quite a bit more noticeable than it was in the aroma. Touches of lemon like notes, perhaps a suggestion of tartness, a firm, dried grass bitterness, and a light herbal character are found up front. The middle has a touch of chewy, bread, but more cracker like grain / malt character to it. This is really quite light bodied and refreshing, there is just enough viscosity to the finish that it doesn’t come off as being watered down though.

The medicinal and phenolic flavors can be a bit overwhelming in the finish at times. Interestingly enough, the aroma seems like it doesn’t have enough yeast / fermentation character to it; though the nose is quite well balanced and a wholesome mix between grain, hops, and light fermentation influences. Overall this is a tasty Saison, but I was hoping for a little bit more.

Very much a classic saison, although perhaps less carbonated and a bit heavier in flavor than those from the other side of the pond. Cloudy dirty yellow pour. Nice fruity malts, with a good degree of lingering peppery spiciness. If you are new to this style, this is a good baseline against which to compare others. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy golden pour with a white head. Sweet bready malt, lemon, orange peel, and cracker. Some hints of spice, yeast, and floral hops. There’s a floral quality to the flavor which is nice. Mild malt sweetness with a dry finish. Grass, orange and lemon zest, cracker, and yeast. A bit of spice and some light funk.

Zeebra Extreme Beer Festival - Very cloudy, almost creamy looking. The aroma has quite strong Brett yeast. Flavour has a nice spice and a slightly raw, pale malt taste. The Brett gives a slightly spicy, sharpness to the beer.
